So the directors of Zootopia were inspired by noir films. This is from their q&a. Rate their tastes, /tv/.

>How did the noir-ish story come about? Are you fans of film noir?

>Rich Moore and Byron Howard are both fans of film noir
>"huge conventions of it is there's a little case that leads to something much bigger, just like this (Zootopia)"
>Rich Moore loves Double Indemnity and Maltese Falcon
>Byron Howard loves The Third Man
>both of them like Chinatown and LA Confidential
>the lighting in the asylum is inspired by these noir films; they even tried to take out almost all of the colors in the asylum sequence and make it almost black and white to give the scene a noir-ish feel

One inspiration for Nick's name is from Nick Charles in The Thin Man, and the dynamic or banter of Judy and Nick was also kind of inspired by Nick and Nora from the same movie.

As for Judy's name, it came from Cary Grant's lines in Only Angels Have Wings where Grant says "Hello, Judy. Come on, Judy. Now, Judy." (the line, for some reason, morphed into "Judy, Judy, Judy").

Who cares, the movies was boring as shit and the only funny scene was (sloths) shown in the trailer.

I thought it was pretty interesting that the directors are into noir films, but okay.

Why the fuck does Judy use her phone as a flashlight instead of a real flashlight? Did they issue her ANY equipment?

Unrelated question but why is this called Zootropolis in Europe? Zootopia is a clever title and Zootropolis is just metropolis with zoo at the beginning. I don't get it.
>>
*open mouth with hand on chin*
>>
>>67283256
Zootopia is taken in some parts of Europe (a zoo, I think), so they can't use the title over there. They talk about it in their q&a.

I can't say for all the Europe, but in slavic languages "zoo" is pronounced closer to "zow-ow" instead of "zoo", so the reference to "utopia" would not have been as smooth as in english.

What do predators eat in the movie? Where do they get the meat? Are there non-mammals in their world? They could have shown fish or crustaceas at some point.

I wonder what whales do in their universe.

The movie fits into different contexts. The timeless message is about prejudice. So it works in different contexts and whatever issues.

>>
>>67285205
What? It's not even deep and is pretty straightforward. The prejudice in the movie works in their own animal world and customs (discriminated for looking small and cute and not fierce, not because they are female). It's not an exact allegory, which is what works for different people and different contexts. Some people can relate or insert whatever they deem fit.

You think this shit's fucking deep?

Honestly, I didn't get any sexual vibes at all. Even at the shot where Judy was climbing her chair, I thought it was just one of those funny butt jokes for kids.

I'm not denying that children's cartoons, even old ones (especially old ones), have sensual stuff. But not everything in this movie is sexual, and it takes a certain mind to focus on it.

If looking smug is "eye fucking" then Nick raped pretty much everybody in the film.
>>
>>67282270
Fuck you, the chase in the mouse district was the best part of the movie
>>
>>67285378
There is nothing "deep" about Zootopia, and nothing deep about people inserting whatever issues they want to see, especially with a movie like Zootopia. Toy Story 3, I'll give you that.
>>
>>67285615
>man children acting like it is super deep and mature
>>
>>67285674
I don't think one is being a man child when they insert their views in Zootopia's story, because the story was made in a way where a lot of contexts fit. It was tailored to be interpreted in a lot of ways. I'm not saying they are right in inserting their views/issues, but I'm saying it's not crazy and not a stretch that people are saying it's about feminism/gays/gun control/south africa/etc. The movie is ripe for that.

Now Toy Story 3 (I have no idea what people are interpreting of it), that's crazy.

tldr, the idea of interpreting stuff isn't crazy for a movie like Zootopia. The things people come up with is another story.

It becomes pro-white really fast if you see predators as white people (more imposing, oppressive in ages past, trying to reconcile with the opressed to the point of afirmative action) and prey as minorities (victim complex, wanting reparations, hatred towards white people because of past doings).

But that's 200 million people who have MONEY. No other nation on earth has such a high level of median disposable income. That means tons of shit gets marketed to them, and consequently floods the entire planet with cultural detritus.
