So the directors of Zootopia were inspired by noir films. This is from their q&a. Rate their tastes, /tv/.>How did the noir-ish story come about? Are you fans of film noir? >Rich Moore and Byron Howard are both fans of film noir>"huge conventions of it is there's a little case that leads to something much bigger, just like this (Zootopia)">Rich Moore loves Double Indemnity and Maltese Falcon>Byron Howard loves The Third Man>both of them like Chinatown and LA Confidential>the lighting in the asylum is inspired by these noir films; they even tried to take out almost all of the colors in the asylum sequence and make it almost black and white to give the scene a noir-ish feelOne inspiration for Nick's name is from Nick Charles in The Thin Man, and the dynamic or banter of Judy and Nick was also kind of inspired by Nick and Nora from the same movie. As for Judy's name, it came from Cary Grant's lines in Only Angels Have Wings where Grant says "Hello, Judy. Come on, Judy. Now, Judy." (the line, for some reason, morphed into "Judy, Judy, Judy").
>>67280949Who cares, the movies was boring as shit and the only funny scene was (sloths) shown in the trailer.
>>67282270I thought it was pretty interesting that the directors are into noir films, but okay.
>>67280949Why the fuck does Judy use her phone as a flashlight instead of a real flashlight? Did they issue her ANY equipment?
Why are people on this sub obsessed with this film? is it just becuz of cute animals??
>>67282686Something the audience of the movie can relate to
>>67280949>LA ConfidentialMy fucking niggas.
>>67282708>cute
>>67282686I don't think the lowlife scum that give out parking tickets are equipped with flashlights
>>67282708It just got released. Yeah it has cute animals, but also not a bad story. Biggest draw for me is the world/details behind it though.
Unrelated question but why is this called Zootropolis in Europe? Zootopia is a clever title and Zootropolis is just metropolis with zoo at the beginning. I don't get it.
*open mouth with hand on chin*
>>67283256Zootopia is taken in some parts of Europe (a zoo, I think), so they can't use the title over there. They talk about it in their q&a.>but in Liechtenstein it's Zoomalamadingdong>I don't know why they chose that>It's a terrible title
>>67282270>expecting the Iliad out of a children's movie
>>67280949>So the directors of Zootopia were inspired by noir films. This wasn't painfully obvious just from the plotline?
>>67283338Sorry i am just spoiled Pixar fan.
>>67283371It is. I'm just listing down the noir films they particularly love and inspired them.
_ ____ __ ____ ___ ______
>>67283338>implying that's not a reasonable expectationParents have to put up with the shit too, you know. The Good Dinosaur managed to.
>>67283395How did you like Brave and Cars/Cars 2?
>>67283430I've been here for too long.
>>67283440Don't ask if you know the answer.
>>67283256I can't say for all the Europe, but in slavic languages "zoo" is pronounced closer to "zow-ow" instead of "zoo", so the reference to "utopia" would not have been as smooth as in english.
>>67283430I want to fuck that rabbit
What do predators eat in the movie? Where do they get the meat? Are there non-mammals in their world? They could have shown fish or crustaceas at some point. I wonder what whales do in their universe.
>They were inspired by noir films>To make a cookie cutter buddy cop movie with animals and a clumsy racism message
>>67284001>I can't read
>>67282848I got banned for posting this.
>>67283822They eat bugs and fish. There's a burger wrapper in the movie with 'bug burger' printed on it. The q&a from the directors also say fish definitely didn't get smarter and is probably food.
>>67283822There's only talking mammals so far, maybe they'll show others like reptiles in the sequel(sss)
>>67284001>ClumsyIt was handled well
>>67282974On a leash.......huh...
>>67284515>It was handled well>Predators be good boys dey dindu nuffing>Oh the villain was a white sheep and the predators actually dindu nuffin>They were just going feral because of crack, I mean whatever the drug was that was being used to make them chimp out>Not crack was introduced by the white prey>Also Idris Elba is in it as an obvious racistIt was clumsy as hell.
>>67284738for a kid movie it was handled really well and not at all as clumsy as you describe it
Was I the only one that cringed at the Breaking Bad reference?
>>67284827Anon please, this movie is white guilt dressed for Kindergarten (by which I mean overweight furfags, I'm sure it was a coincidence the movie shipped the two most sexualised animals by furfaggots).
>>67284890>white guiltsounds pretty paranoid. There were bad guys on both sides in this movie
>>67284738>nuanced situations where blacks aren't ebil rapists and whites aren't demigods trigger me, please don't portay these in media
>>67284890you are the only one here, who knows what furries tend to sexualise, so I take you word for it
>>67284966>Nuanced>FUCKING STUPID BUNNY, I NO CARE IF YOU PASS TEST YOU ARE SHITTY COP, GO DO PARKING METERS FOREVER
>>67284890or they thought that cat and mouse would be too obvious
I want to fuck the bunny
>>67283822Insects and Fish. It's shown in the background a few times.
>>67285052Yeah I'm sure that's it furfag.
>>67284890The movie fits into different contexts. The timeless message is about prejudice. So it works in different contexts and whatever issues.I saw a thread in /k/ that even talked that the movie could be about the gun issue
>>67285030what are you on about? should the movie be about "micro aggressions"? Of course they have a scene, where she gets discriminated. Later in the movie she acts pretty racist herself. Thats pretty nuanced for a kiddy flick
>>67284890>white guilt>both predators and preys are painted in a ugly light>assumes that the predator/prey relationship is synonimous with white/negro relationship, and not being able to be switched around for both casesIt's a jab towards any sort of racism, regardless if it's the KKK or BLM.
>>67285104Jesus Christ. This is getting to be as bad as Toy Story 3 was with man children acting like it is super deep and mature.
>>67285089not everything is about your weird obsession. Maybe watch some animal docus or look up some old as fuck fables, if you dont understand why fox+rabbit is a classic choice
>>67285209>That denialMaybe you should watch the movie again and count how many times the fox and the rabbit eye fuck each other and the rabbit is shot in a sexual way.
>>67285249>this projectionWhy are you hiding your feelings, anon?
>>67285205What? It's not even deep and is pretty straightforward. The prejudice in the movie works in their own animal world and customs (discriminated for looking small and cute and not fierce, not because they are female). It's not an exact allegory, which is what works for different people and different contexts. Some people can relate or insert whatever they deem fit.You think this shit's fucking deep?
>>67285352Maybe read the post I was responding to fedora.
>>67284738>>67284890>i use buzzwords as arguments: the posti want /v/eddit to leave.
>>67285249Honestly, I didn't get any sexual vibes at all. Even at the shot where Judy was climbing her chair, I thought it was just one of those funny butt jokes for kids.I'm not denying that children's cartoons, even old ones (especially old ones), have sensual stuff. But not everything in this movie is sexual, and it takes a certain mind to focus on it.
>>67285249>Maybe you should watch the movie again and count how many times the fox and the rabbit eye fuck each other and the rabbit is shot in a sexual way...huh...
>>67285249If looking smug is "eye fucking" then Nick raped pretty much everybody in the film.
>>67282270Fuck you, the chase in the mouse district was the best part of the movie
>>67285378There is nothing "deep" about Zootopia, and nothing deep about people inserting whatever issues they want to see, especially with a movie like Zootopia. Toy Story 3, I'll give you that.
>>67285615>man children acting like it is super deep and mature
>>67285674I don't think one is being a man child when they insert their views in Zootopia's story, because the story was made in a way where a lot of contexts fit. It was tailored to be interpreted in a lot of ways. I'm not saying they are right in inserting their views/issues, but I'm saying it's not crazy and not a stretch that people are saying it's about feminism/gays/gun control/south africa/etc. The movie is ripe for that. Now Toy Story 3 (I have no idea what people are interpreting of it), that's crazy. tldr, the idea of interpreting stuff isn't crazy for a movie like Zootopia. The things people come up with is another story.
>>67280949What is smug?
>>67286217>manlets
>>67286217>big ass picture>sidewaysI ain't clicking that famarama
>>67283657In German speaking countries it's Tsoh, or at least close to that.
>>67285448The nudist part was a bit weird. I mean, I got it, but the visual gags weren't particularly funny for how long it went on.
>>67286616I laughed at the bears scratching their backs at the palm trees, but that's it. I also get that they're trying to make it uncomfortable in a funny way for kids, but yeah most adults, if not all, don't really find anything that odd about it
The fucking foxs smug face makes ME feel smug
>>67285140What part of the movie is this in?
>>67287246I think it's when the chief was talking about the missing mammals, and the board was filled with the map and pictures of the mammals. It's easy to miss.
So what do carnivores eat in this universe? Like how does a fox and rabbit coexist ? what doe sth efox eat
>>67284738i hope this is satire , its honestly sad if you view the world this way seek help anon
>>67287362Good catch
>>67287368Bugs and fish.

This movie was shit. For everyone defending it, go back to tumblr you anti white cucks, this movie was anti white.
>>67287956
>>67287956If you want to go that way, it was actually pro-white with the South Africa allegory
>>67287956It becomes pro-white really fast if you see predators as white people (more imposing, oppressive in ages past, trying to reconcile with the opressed to the point of afirmative action) and prey as minorities (victim complex, wanting reparations, hatred towards white people because of past doings).
>>67288151>>67288063That's how a cuck would see it, predators act like niggers with their natural instinct to be savages.
>>67287899
>>67285205Never underestimate the power of autism. I really hope everyone in this thread is only joking, especially the /pol/ shitposters analyzing this family film far deeper than they should have.
>wanted to discuss about the directors noir film tastes>get furfaggotry and /pol/ bickering
>>67289504>expecting anything but shitposting on a thread about zootopiaLearn to stop enjoying things, it'll make it easier for yourself.
>>67289628I'll try
>>67289504
>>67289921I think not enough people are familiar with these old noir films. I accept defeat.
>>67289921Serious discussion isn't possible on 4chan, far too many people prefer to shitpost to have anything that resembles a quality discussion.
>>67290045chin up anon. Go watch Felidae or read some Blacksad if you're hankering for some noir.
Fuck off to >>>/co/ creepers
>>67290538Seriously, anyone who likes children's films should be kicked in the balls really hard.
>>67290538But this was supposed to be the directors' tastes in noir films
>>67290899It's zootopia still, keep this kike brainwashing on /co/
>>67290981What brainwashing? I just wanted to talk of their tastes in noir films and how surprisingly knowledgeable they are of it
>>67291073Zootopia is part of a Jewish plot to make white men into degenerates. This movie will breed a new generation of furfags who like animefags will want a waifu rather than find a white wife and have white children to fight the niggers and save the endangered white race.
>>67291163Okay. I guess it's too much to discuss films in the film board.
>>67291276Zog produced films shouldn't be talked about on a patrician board like /tv/
should I watch this movie is it actually good
>>67291880Yeah, it's a fun and creative film. I'm sure you'll end up liking it, I'm excited for more Nick and Judy in the future. If you don't feel like paying to see it in cinema, there is a decent camrip you can pirate.
>>67284579Where does this image come from, anyway? I only ever see it in these threads.
>>67291880Former AMC employee here. Do you have a younger sibling that wants to see it? No? Are you a woman? No? Then don't go see it.
>>67292437Yeah, just pirate it.

>>67286217smug was dragon in hobbits film
>>67292867I think this perception is actually due to America's affluence, weirdly-- 2/3 of Americans are certainly retards, but I don't think this is much higher than most other Western nations. But that's 200 million people who have MONEY. No other nation on earth has such a high level of median disposable income. That means tons of shit gets marketed to them, and consequently floods the entire planet with cultural detritus.
>>67285249Too many
>>67283495Ditto.
>>67284890>senile female communist is overthrown in the endYeah it was still politically tainted with left shit but overall it wasn't complete propaganda like you say
>>67294607Anyone have the edit with nick?
>>67294701No. WhatWhy
>>67294951whoa, relax man
No shit, it was basically noir for kids. Shame about the self violating ending, in which indeed you could point at a race with a motive and say they are the bad guys, instead of playing a bit more swiftly on the nature of coexistence and things like that.
>>67295038
>>67295043It's a Disney movie for kids, you can't expect a bad ending.
>>67292204the unicorn is from a shitty webcomic, i have no idea who the girl is supposed to be
>>67285448There was not really any, but it definetely felt more "adult" then your usual talking animals cartoon. Relationships, even interspecific, were heavily implied and characters'es mannerisms were definetely adult. Notice the way Judy Fucking tiger dancers man.
>>67295260the guy without the hat is /v/ and the guy with a hat is /mlp/the joke being that someone posted a pic of the unicorn and everyone wanted to fuck it
>>67295306the unicorn is from this comic which is/was posted a lot to "LOL" threads
>>67295472yeah like 2 yrs ago ya knob head
>>67284579also here do muzzles come from and why do a group of twelve year olds have them
>>67295209Yeah, that's the thing. From the public speech thereafter, the whole thing felt too heavy handed. The movie references were horrible too, like Family Guy like.
Yeah, I feel the same, the movie went too fast after Judy Speech, even the Nick discussion sounded weird, I feel Nick overeacted. The reference was alright, probably no one understood the Breaking Bad one.
