Does Charlie know why Remmy moved to Pack Street? She seemed to know everything else about him as soon as he moved in, before even meeting him, and while he doesn't want to share it his reason for moving may not actually be a complete secret.

There's a whole bunch of fan fiction for Pack Street but none of it gets the character voice right. For some reason Weaver's style is real hard to ape, even for people trying to do the same "Remmy's perspective first person" thing.

Weaver's prose style has a lot, a LOT of internal rumination and introspection, like the protagonist is telling and embellishing a recollection to a rapt audience and providing plenty of personal commentary and observations along the way above and beyond what the story requires.

Most fanfic writers go for a fairly lean and functional style, with a lot more dialogue and short fragments like just "he said" and "They left the apartment together". It reads more like an outline that hasn't been fleshed out. Also, pacing-wise, Weaver tends to move between a few setpiece locations and scenes with quick transitions, rather than follow Remmy through his every movement or provide long stretches of time summary. If you're describing a lot of uninteresting incidental movement then you need to skip a bit instead, and if you're skimming lightly over days or weeks you need to pick one representative flashpoint and slow down.

I UNDERSTAND ALBOO ALBOO

No but yeah, Weaver's voice is really distinct. But that goes for nearly every writer in existence. I think complete imitation is impossible if the project means something to you, because then you're going to subconsciously project some part of you into the story whether that be in the dialogue or the plot or the narration.

It's why Zootopia's style and humour so weird to imitate. There are SEVEN writers that have story credits and even though most of it is Byron, Rich and Jared, that's still three people's minds put together that you have to match up to.

I really dig the candid, introspective but still outspoken style Weaver writes his characters and world with because it can really layer in depth and catch you off guard when it gets feelsy but alas, I cannot be the antelope himself.

Just my two cents. I've thought a lot about this so there's definitely a lot of things I'm missing

Another TT is closing in.
Another frustrating failure to get any ideas to work.
I used to be able to turn out a short story with each edition and now it's been months since I've been able to get anything written.
Ideas come to me, outlines get put together, but when it comes down to the read work the words just stumble and fall apart until it's just a cluttered mess that I don't want to deal with anymore.
I can't start a single project without getting frustrated and angry at it and myself.
I feel like I've lost my knack and it'll never return, and I don't know what's worse about it; knowing that I have so many unrealized ideas that I can never express anymore, or the fact that when people ask me if I have anything new coming soon I just assure them I'm working on it, rather than give them the blunt truth that I'm washed up and may never do anything new again.

Each time I site down to write I just feel more and more disappointment in myself for being a failure and all I can think of is just walking away from the community to avoid my shame, but the thought of it just leaves me hollow.

I think I might be finally done.

I think one of the most obvious things that gives away another writer as Not Weaver when they try to write a Pack Street story is that Weaver really does have a judo grip on each character and their particulars, which you just can't get from a surface reading.

Like, Avo and Betty for example. They're both fairly gruff, acidic and sarcastic to varying degrees, so for another writer it can be hard to make them distinct in the way that Weaver can.

Ruin was a great parody for showing the different caricatures people tend to make of each character, but that's just the nature of trying to imitate someone else's work - you're only ever playing catchup. Good writing is something that takes on a life of its own such that the writer can feel more like a vessel for how the story naturally unfolds itself, but normally only the original creator has that kind of connection to the source.

You write those words, so you still are capable of writing. You find that everything doesn't come together, you have the pieces but lack the glue, right?
Then there are still ways to go. Giving up is NOT one of them.
First thing, ask for help with someone that knows something on how to write. For example, Comic, he is always helpful.
Second, read more. Read works by other authors, but don't use them as a comparative scale with you. Just read and learn, like a student learning a new subject. Be inspired.
Third: start again, but small. Don't go immediately in a big epic. Start with small works, 1000 words or less. Do greens. Create something under tight restrictions (e.g. you can only talk in third person, the work is about a specific event, etc.). If you can't can't go big right again, you should start again but small. Retrace the beaten path, give it form and use it as solid foundation for your latter work. When someone return to the gym after a period of injury they must start at a much smaller load than before, for muscles have to be trained again.
I hope the best for you, anon.

I would just love to understand the man, or know where he's coming from.
I don't want his name or phone number, I just want to understand how he got to where he can write stuff the way he does.
His depth of understanding only shows up when you think you missed something and go back to re-read.
Suddenly, that same story is different and you start to appreciate the complexity he can 'weave' into his work.
OK, better stop before I feel his balls on my chin.

I didn't feel able to write or play guitar due to a very long depressive episode for over a month.
All the advice I can give is that the stuff you make when you're first getting back on the saddle is going to be garbage. Look at it critically when it's finished, then toss it overboard and keep going full steam ahead. You will eventually get somewhere, artistically, that you can be proud of.
I know what it's like to disappoint. My favorite professor in my favorite class in college called me on his phone the days I didn't show up to class, and generally I was just at home moping or drunk or something else. It hurts them and it hurts you. Whatever you do, don't take it as the end. It's a signal to change.
I've never made any idea work. I've just spewed enough onto the page to reach wordcount. Open up the ol' processor and shut out hacks like me.
Don't quit. No one wins when you quit. I want to see you around here.

>I wrote 18k+ words in two days
>now I'm having trouble scraping together a couple thousand in two weeks

It's almost scary how alike we are. Some says I start convincing myself that just deleting my accounts and vanishing would be the way to go. They probably still are, in all honesty. It doesn't matter, anyway, as I'm at the point of convincing myself all the comments and reviews were just lies to make me feel good. It's failure all the way down for me. Even my past stuff is just more pointless drivel, the only difference being I had the motivation to write it and the blindness to not be able to see how bad it was.

While depression certainly is something I've been familiar with in the past, I do have to be honest that outside my current issues with writing, my personal life outside the threads is actually at it's most stable than it's even been in a long time.
I have a job I'm content with, coworkers I like, money isn't as tight as it used to be.
It's my creative side that seems to be the dark spot.
Maybe depression is something that can be partitioned like that, I don't know.

Deleting everything is not the way to go. There are people that like what you do, because they don't know that you are feeling bad, so they simply can't do the reviews to make you feel good. They are merely expressing their ideas on your work.
You think you have written shit? Maybe (but likely not), and many people will still not see it like that. How many times did I think that I have drawn (and written) nothing but shit? Too many. I still can't believe that there are people looking forward to some of my works. Did I feel the need to delete them? Yes. Did I do that? Nope. Why? Because even the mightiest roads and foundations are still founded on gravel. This are the things I did, and deleting them would would be only lying to myself. You need to find the courage to look back in order to look forward.
Also I was seriously thinking of doing a comic (not right now, maybe in the following months), and I would seriously hate if some potential writer would have disappeared from the list of candidates because of a round of depression.
Take this in mind: there would be more people upset if you delete your work than if you keep it. A lot more.

If it's caused by your life being shitty, it's not depression, it's just a rational reaction to a shitty situation. Depression is when you feel like shit even when you don't have reason to.

"Howdy, fabric softener," grunts Betty as she comes down the steps into the common area to check her mail. "Saw you workin' at the Bug Burger the other day."

I'm surprised enough to almost drop the can of cream soda my buddy Marty gave me. It's not like Betty's easy to hide, being the tallest mammal in the pack. "You should've dropped by. I could've cooked up that slider I still owe you."

Betty grunts and shakes her head. "No time. I was already late for work at Pandora's Box." She takes another hit of her vape, the cloud filling the space between us. "Besides, now that you're pack delta, I can't be hitting you up for free food all the time."

"You two-timer!" I turn to see Annake surging down the stairs in a huff, aimed straight for me. "Wolt's boyfriend just said he saw you at the movies last night with Martina, but you told me you were too busy to go with me to go shopping at Marty's book store! Are you cheating on me?!"

I wink and give her my signature double finger guns. "Try many things."

I can't sleep. The sound of Ozzy's bass keeps filtering down from the room above, jolting me awake with its high pitched noise. If only there was some way to block out the noise, but instead I decide to stretch my paws for a bit and go for a walk.

It's still dark out when I hit the streets, most mammals already asleep as the night wears on. I don't have anywhere in particular in mind, but my feet end up taking me to Pandora's Box - still open, unsurprisingly.

I can see Pandora herself behind the counter, and she waves to me as I pass. "Up late, my dear woolly bully?" she asks with a toothy grin. "Perhaps looking for another night-time purchase?"

"Nah, not this time Pan," I say with a shrug. "Just can't sleep."

"Well if you see your little partner in crime Charles about, let her know I have another job in mind for her."

"I'll keep my eyes open, but nobody's seen that fox in days." Not one red hair.

As if on queue, our attentions are grabbed by the squeal of tires. We both turn and see Al's car blazing down the road toward us, Charles once again at the wheel. I bail out of the way just in time only for the much larger fox to suddenly leap from the car and crash-land on top of me, my thick fur cushioning the impact. Al's car rolls wildly to a stop before exploding.

"Are you insane?" I scream in her face.

The fox merely winks. "Make frequent attempts."

Ozzy opened the cooler and wrinkled his canine snout in disgust. "Tch, no ice." He pulled out two cans and offered them to me. "Cherry or orange?"

I never asked for this life, I never asked to move into a predator neighbourhood. Come to think of it, I never asked for a cola either. But here I am once again having to make decisions to fit into a society I don't understand and that doesn't understand me.

And it's not like I haven't made the effort. Why just the other day I bought root beers for me and Al, and I wasn't even thirsty. Did he care, though? Well, hard to say, actually. He takes the can and says "Thanks, wannabite," but then he chucks it full force at Betty's head from across the street. It gouges a rivulet of flesh from her brow and I immediately dropped my handful of fresh laundry and started bleating. From somewhere indeterminate, Avo laughed.

There's at least two more personal historical anecdotes regarding cola and race relations here but I'm gonna skip 'em in favor of vague comments about my home situation. Did you know my mother liked orange soda more than cherry? Incidentally implies I have a mother, doesn't it? Pretty clever stuff. You better file that away for later.

One day I'm gonna get out of this ghetto, and I'm gonna have my own sodastream, straight from Sheeprael. Fuck the boycott, that's holy sheep land that's belonged to us for thousands of years. Not that I really think of myself as a practicing sheep, last time I was at one of our midnight masses the elders were mumbling something about "the pred problem" and "howlers" but I don't really go in for politics.

I wonder if [Anneke/Avo/Betty/Charlie (SELECT ONE)] likes cola? God I need to get laid. Wait, does God exist in this setting? Who cares, I'm horny, though not enough to notice absurdly obvious come-ons from the women I live alongside daily. Better to play hard to get. Hard like my favorite flavor of soda.

"Orange," I say, taking the can from Ozzy.

Personally I think that Rex would, rather than insult someone outright, would rather misdirect the initial insult to remove its power; akin to how he just absorbs the bile from angry customers since he's "never gonna see them again"

That, or he misinterprets the insult altogether due to his generally aloof nature

In my mind I see a conversation between Avo and Rex going something like this:

>"Scruffy grease ball."
>"Sorry, that's Thursday's special of the day."
>"Oh, so you do have some kick to you?"
>"Nah, we're out of Firefly sauce unfortunately."
>"Wait, are we actually talking about burgers now?"
>"... Wait, we weren't?"
>>
>>9756585
Actually, no, it doesn't.
Bait was present since the beginning and sometimes it worked, in the past as in the present.
I have to look at the thread in the archives (since I have to because of timezone) and you can see it is a similar modus operandi to a bait that worked more than SIX MONTHS ago.
Conversations are like rivers, sometimes there are stupid dams that will shit up their course.

This is really well done, especially considering that you haven't drawn in four years.
The paws/hands seem more than alright, if I have to nitpick (but it is really splitting hairs), be careful with the edge of her right thumb articulation (a little too pointy), increase just a little bit the width of the finger next to it and restrict a little the size of her middle left finger. But this is really going to the millimeter-size correction, this drawing is fantastic.
I especially like the volume you give to the figure and the folds of her clothes. It shows you have drawn for a long time.
Name, new artist?

Also do you know about Thematic Thursday?
It is a bi-weekly event we have here. First week we choose a theme, second week whoever wants draws, writes, makes something about that theme (obviously Zootopia related) and we all submit them (really, it is just a post saying "This is my TT entry") on Thursday. This week's theme is Late night. All the other informations about TT are in the OP. It would be a nice idea to get back into the swing of things with an entry

Also nice to hear these news. I will wait eagerly for your TT submission.
Also, since you are here and it is difficult to find you, I have something to say.
As you can see looking at the top of the thread, the idea of pairing with a writer and doing a comic has been tickling the back of my head for some days. Now, there are some writers I would prefer to work with, because I like their style and, more important, I find them "compatible".
You are one of them. I like your greens, I like your prose, I like the situations you can create with them.
Now, it is something that will not happen for probably a couple of months (if it happens), but I want to know if I can add you to the list of writers who are okay with this idea of collaboration.
Just to know, just in case

I ended up reading that one and that's actually pretty good. A little sappy, naturally, but Wolter and Avo seemed pretty distinct and they're normally two of the trickier characters to pull off.

if pack street was a tv show in the zootopia universe who would nick and judy ship?

Nick would obviously ship Remmy and Charlie, out of respect for the hustle.

Judy wouldn't see the appeal of Remmy at all but Al and Velvet's story would melt her heart. Maybe just a little sheepdog on the side so she can tease Nick about being his keeper.
>>
>>9759550
Nick would probably be the fan of the shady conning charater, he would ship Charlie with Remmy. (or the opposite he would find it offensive representation of foxes, and ship the Betty who remind him of his mother in some way)

Judy would probably be a Pandora fan for her honestly and sweetness, or Annake for the youthful energy and flirtiness

>Judy would probably be a Pandora fan for her honestly and sweetness, or Annake for the youthful energy and flirtiness
I think Judy's a little too stiff to be a big fan of someone running a sex shop. Like, she might think Pandora's great and nice but be a little put off by her actual interests.
Also funny if Charlie's nude scene comes up while watching with Nick. He just confirms that "Oh yeah, sure, foxes get naked all the time."
>>
>>9759550
Nick would ship Remmy with himself
>>
>>9759722
I would ship Nick with myself. No homo though.

stiff with her "rabbits are good at multiplying" joke? Yeah, keep telling yourself that she is a turbo virgin
>>
>>9760021
You could probably argue that she was just trying to throw that slight in his face after he had framed her rabbit "nature" as incapable.
Regardless, I like Jude the Prude. I think it's overdone to a ridiculous extent, where she's basically a dead fish in initiation, but turbo slut is actually really unappealing. I'm pretty sure I read something a while back about Judy trying to emulate turbo slut mode for Nick's sake, but the fact that it was so obviously a show and she'd trip over the act every few seconds was what made it so hot.
>>
>>9760125
Yeah, I neighter see her as a turbo slut or a turbo virgin. I see her as a more sensible person, likes to be pervy but only with someone she actually really is close to.

I see her as a touch awkward about the openness of sex. Like she was kinda put off by the naturalist club. She's not a prude, its more of the 'but, in front of STRANGERS' thing that makes her uncharacteristically vulnerable. In private she can be as sexually adventurous as anyone with a partner she's comfortable exposing herself to.
>>
>>9760245

Judy's not some completely naive, wide-eyed innocent (hence the multiplying joke), but that doesn't mean she's necessarily comfortable with nudity and sexuality in the open (hence the naturalist club). She can probably handle a bit of innuendo but the owner of a sex shop candidly talking about her products in public would probably make her squirm a little.

I want to say more than one writer is better really; personally I am crap at thinking of long term plots. More writers would also mean more points of views, which is a nice thing.

>>9760210
My main curiosity concerning Judy is how much of a pariah was she in Bunny Burrow? Even her family still didn't fully accept her dream of becoming a cop, so how would any suitors feel about that? I doubt Judy would date anyone that didn't respect her career choice, much less sleep with them. She probably had a few friends here and there, but most bunnies probably wanted a mate who would stay in town rather than move 200 miles away. So how much relationship experience does Judy actually have?

I feel like Nick and Violet could probably find some common ground in caring for Judy and perhaps some other subjects, but their banter might turn more aggressive. Unlike Judy, who just goes back and forth with Nick's remarks, Violet might be more up in Nick's face when trading insults. Then they laugh about it later.

I kind of like Nick/Violet, as long as it isn't to cuck Judy or happens because forced situation of Judy cheating. That is how I feel about most ships though really, just write about the ship rather than a third party being "Abloo".

>I just found a lot more appealing when it's about smooching than about love triangle drama.

Exactly this. It kind of cheapens the pairing really when it is a revenge green/story or cuck. It is the main thing I have against SavageHopps, Judeon, and the few WildeSkye there are that isn't done by Softlight. If those pairings were just about the two characters and everyone else was just written off as "They are not interested" then great. I'd probably still wouldn't read those stories, but I'd bet they would be a lot more enjoyable if it focused more on, say, Judy and Gideon interacting rather than have part of the story going "and Nick was sad because Judy didn't return his feelings".

They feel less like Nick/Someone or Judy/Someone and more like Nick/Not Judy or Judy/Not Nick.
>>
>>9763415
Oh yeah, there was a post on reddit about that game and all the "semi-canon" or second hand canon stuff in it. Like Nick is constantly handed over to Vice to go undercover... which actually makes sense. And apparently canines have their own words you are not suppose to say to them; Judy asks Nick if he is ready to make a collar, Nick "takes offense" to it ("whoa you can't say that to a member of the canine family") only to say he was teasing when Judy started apologizing.

I can't like any ships with Nick and Judy except eachother. I really tried, but it always boild down to it, that in the movie they needed eachother so they can both become better people (mammals). If love is not about finding someone who makes you better you also make her better than what? No matter what fic I've read involving another ships with them, if it's not cuck, it's still just simple lust and giggles, noone can make Judy's and Nick's life better anyomore than they have already in the movie.
