Disney is so goddamn stupid. Imagine refusing to make merch for something because development didn't go as planned, or some bluehair somwhere got pissy over the plot, and continuing to stay that course after the movie was a great success.
Fairly certain the movie made MORE then Lilo & Stitch, which they went the total opposite way with to the point of killing the brand within two years.

Its completely disgusting that Mick Gordon is making things up about Marty not paying him when Marty paid him the fair salary of what was owed.

I feel like ZootPlus would've been perfect timing for some more accurate Zoot merch. It's the holidays, they had 6 years incl the pandemic of planning, the character roster wasn't a secret, Didny loves money even a former merch sales guy as ceo - literally could've gotten some more unique things in the same vein like the Jap stuff. The fact the only new merch is some Nick/Judy/Yax/Flash patterns slapped over some clothes and a bag is pretty much wasted potential. I'd buy some tube plush. Or a Pawaiian Nick shirt.

I feel like releasing Zootopia 2 at this point would be like opening Pandora's Box, causing the end of the world because of what lies at the bottom of it

It's like Disney is keeping some dark entity from swallowing all of us by holding back the thing that has every reason to come out already

The company shaman gave a dire warning to the board of executives, during a May, 2019, meeting, that commencing production of 2topia (copyright pending) would "carry forth a New Era in the age of Man", and the executives have been wrangling about how to interpret the warning ever since. They are split into two primary camps: one believing that it will cause the destruction of the human race and sapience as we know it, likely via nuclear holocaust when a tense argument between Biden and Xi Jinping about whether Nick and Judy are lovers or just friends comes to a boil. The other believes that it will simply cause a great revelatory event, an apocalypse in the classical sense of the word, wherein Jesus (in the form of a lamb) will return to Earth and proclaim that the next step in Man's evolution is to be reformed to be more true to God's new image, now that He has decided to adopt a fursona of His own. And Man will step aside for Mammal.

has any madman tried splicing the shorts into the movie? it would probably be rather difficult to do, and the results would most likely be dogshit (like that one watchmen extended edition with the guy reading the unrelated comic), since not only would the shorts severely fuck up the pacing, but also spoil things in advance and generate massive tonal whiplash, but it might still be a fun experiment to do like that one edit of Pulp Fiction in chronological order even if it's missing the point and going against the flow of the movie. Let's see:
>Stu and Bonnie short:
spoils Gideon turning, the naturalist club and Nick and Finnick's hustle in advance, on top of ruining the mood and feel of how the whole scene of Judy traveling to the city is set up
>Bridesmaids of Little Rodentia:
Kino, but might be a bit hard to splice in considering the part in which Judy saves FruFru is in it, and also spoils the whole night howler thing which is BIG
>Duke the Musical:
Probably easy to splice in, though it would kinda fuck up the pacing much like the previous one, besides, the movie benefits from the viewer not knowing much about Duke, this being the kind of thing that's meant to be watched after the movie
>The Godfather of the Bride:
Probably the easiest one to splice in, I'd see no issue with it besides pacing if not for the fact that I saw a zoot+ review on letterboxd of a guy complaining it ruined Mr. Big since he was implied to be a dark character in the movie and this goes against it
>So you think you can prance:
Probably pretty hard to splice in, since it's a dream sequence and you can't just cut away from dream sequence half way and go back to it later for the ending
>Dinner Rush:
The biggest issue with this one is the pacing, since it takes place by the end of the movie, and the way the ending is set up you can't just interrupt the focus on Nick and Judy's stories wrapping up to shift the focus to unrelated characters before the end
>>
>>52439646
>"whether Nick and Judy are lovers or just friends comes to a boil"
considering the fandom, the internet and the world at large has collectively decided WildeHopps is a thing, it really isn't in Disney's best interest to not pair them up, them going the "just friends" route will most likely result in an event that makes KyoAni look like a fucking joke
>>
>>52440615
on that note, Dinner Rush takes place during Francine's birthday, which is the same day Judy joins the force, but it makes no sense for Flash to be stopped on his way to the Gazelle concert by Nick and Judy on the same day since there's a time gap between Judy first arriving in the city and the end of the movie, so Dinner Rush's timeline placement only makes sense if it takes place exactly one year after Judy first joins the force

I'm pretty sure Rich Moore said that from Judy and Nick's first meeting to Nick and Judy being in roll call together, a year had gone by. Since Judy and Nick meets for the first same on the same day that Judy had her first roll call, it seems pretty accurate.
It's kinda interesting that Bogo didn't call out Francine's birthday the second time.

people pointed out in earlier threads how 3D models that had been left in the cutting room floor for the movie were reused in the shorts, like the old goat and those car rodents, so I gotta ask, did polar bear cubs ever appear in the movie? asking because I clearly remember one being in that collar scene from the earlier version of the movie whose model might very well be picrel but not sure if I remember it being used in the final version

Addendum: Al strikes me as that endangered breed of mammal that can still survive being allergic to the internet. This is a little more plausible if you consider that the series takes place around 2015.
He was raised too poor to ever have access to it as a kit, and went to school long enough ago that he learned how to type on a typewriter. His stable grunt work very rarely requires using anything more technologically advanced than a punch clock, let alone anything with a keyboard or internet connectivity. He still gets the majority of his news and entertainment from cable television (the only place to get either that he's really familiar with), still has a landline, and still files his tax returns by hand and through the mail. For official documents that absolutely require using the internet, he relegates as much of that work to Velvet as she will put up with. He is woefully clueless when he has no other choice but to do that work himself and shuts down very quickly, quite literally throwing up his paws in defeat when he can't even get the keyboard on his phone to stay on the screen.

Did Nick even need to exist? Couldn't the movie had been about Judy and Gideon putting their differences aside and solve the big conspiracy?

Yes he needed to exist because if the story would've only focused on Judy and Gideon that's not going to address the issue that the story wanted to adress: "prejudice"

Don't make a mistake: Nick doesn't exist to replace Gideon. Gideon was little to a last minute addition to the story to show why Judy was prejudiced.

Judy needed to fear Nick(and predators) for something they didn't do, that's why a throwaway side-character childhood bully was created, to give Judy a reason to subconsciously be afraid of foxes, regardless how progressive she thought she was.

If the movie would've been about Gideon and Judy, that's different Judy has a REASON to be afraid and distrust Gideon and the movie's message, her actions during the press conference would be far less impactful.
>>
>>52457147
What if Gideon apologized and spent the
movie showing that he changed but Judy still hated him, wouldn't that make her in the wrong anyway
>>
>>52457242
itd make her based
>>
>>52457242
No that just would make her hold a grudge against someone who hurt her.
As someone who had their childhood made a living hell by bullies, there are things that you find hard to forgive, and takes waaaay more effort than 1-2 day of being nice to make up for years of torment.

Judy being rude or distrust of Gideon wouldn't automatically make everyone disagree with her. Judy wouldn't say it to Gid "you are not like THEM" like she told to Nick. Judy would a 100% think that "Gid is like THEM" and that was the problem. That Judy didn't realize that there is no THEM
>>
>>52457376
>Judy wouldn't say it to Gid "you are not like THEM" like she told to Nick. Judy would a 100% think that "Gid is like THEM" and that was the problem. That Judy didn't realize that there is no THEM
She could only learn that through her encounter and backstory sharing with Nick.
If Gid would've tried to sell her a sob backstory, she would've just rolled her eyes.

The very reason she open to Gid's apology WAS because she met Nick. Without Nick, Judy probably would've avoided Gid all together, not wanting to talk to him.
>>
>>52457376
Fair enough, I guess Second Chances isn't the main theme of the movie
>>
>>52457460
it really isn't. Nick is a hustler but not an outright criminal that ruined his life and needs a second chance, that why they wrote out his entire arrest and his direct involvement with the night-howler case.

The movie is about being open minded, and not be prejudiced.
Some people miss this and think it's about "accepting others"
Judy and Nick didn't accept Bellwether's worldview, because it was wrong. And that also an important thing it teaches.

You should not judge others, but you should also not be ignorant to evil.

I'm sad too, but Gideon can't outgrew that he was nothing more than a walking talking plot-device.

He was Judy's bully ONLY so Judy would have a reason to be close-minded and afraid of Nick.
He was only turned a good baker, so he can accidentally mutter a few words that helps Judy solve the case.

There was an interesting greentext way back when(?) that laid out Gideon's redemption, called 'Perfect Pies Don't exist', which Comic read through an earlier version of;
https://soundcloud.com/comicanon/perfect-pies-dont-exist
It was up on AO3, but the author 'Habsburg' pulled it down and I can't find any trace of it.
There were greentexts of it about 5 years ago.

That's the one. I think that's it's original form, then Comic read it and he (Habsburg) cleaned it up a bit (he's German and writing in english), and it went up on AO3.
I got interested in using it's premise to write another story, but when I went to AO3 for reference, it had disappeared?

I already mentioned writing a piece about Marty from PS being lewd and gay in an earlier thread, it being a sequel to something from way back in 2019, but before the week ends I'd like to mention these works one more time!

Synopsis: "Marty, a young stoat living in the Zootopian neighborhood of Pack Street, finds himself alone at his job at the local library. He's had an awful day. The facility's next visitor, however, may do more than brighten the mammal's spirits."

Synopsis: "Marty, a young stoat living in the Zootopian neighborhood of Pack Street, has only barely come to terms with how his new relationship has affected him. Fortunately, self-exploration is easier than ever in the age of smartphones. His boyfriend has some interesting ideas as well."

Please give these a chance if you haven't already! And thanks to those who have chimed in with your support! It really means a lot to me!

>>
>>52485060
indeed. her words must have rung pretty hollow to wolter when they were being spoken through that marlboro mouth of hers.

now im imagining what the pack's stance on cannabis is. in rough descending order
>wolter and anneke
habitual smokers, maybe not every day but frequent. wolter smokes more than anneke. at least wolter has also dabbled in shit like ket, dxm and shrooms in the past
>ozzy
has past experience, but doesnt presently smoke because his therapist suggested not to. not well off enough to buy his own anyway and too polite to ask anyone
>avo
has past experience, but has been trying to quit smoking
>betty
open but spends too much of her paycheck on cigarettes to use it much. has a little stash put away to treat herself to on special occasions like once every 1-2 months
>velvet
has no experience but is not opposed to it. can't use it because of her job anyway
>charlie
completely neutral, doesn't use it, neither supports nor opposes it, has no definite opinion
>al
doesnt really know much beyond the anti-drug rhetoric he got from school and his dad. tries not to be judgmental but has a mixed opinion anyway.
>remmy
thinks weed is beneath him, but solely from his sheer naiveté. would do a 180 and become a stoner if someone from the pack turned him on to it
>marty
firmly negative, highly itchy and neurotic about it. won't shut up about how betty's staining the walls
>>
>>52485800
Remmy is so fucking suggestible it's insane
>>
>>52485993

>>
>>52485800

>>
>>52486173
ah right, i forgot that detail. okay just wolter on that then. id like to think shes still tried the other stuff though
and yeh avo was pretty obvious because of her oral fixation. lotta smokers either take it up because of one or they develop it after smoking. most people i know who quit still chew gum or toothpicks to satisfy it
>>
>>52486173

Well, I finally got around to reading Water Under the Bridge to the end. I'm really glad that I did, because whatever reservations I remember having the first time I read the opening chapter years ago went away as soon as I really got into the story. Somehow the action movie terrorism plot fits just right with the source material, and somehow I also didn't feel much whiplash when this was on the backdrop of detailed, sadistic gore, even if I started to feel a little bit over it by the fight in the tenth chapter.
I also have to commend WriteAnon for making a story where pretty much every single thread got tied off (minus Shakespeare-- I was hoping he'd have a resolution). I think my favorite was the one with the lab sample Nick was given. Excellent example of Chekhov's gun being used to great effect. I also think he wrote the villains superbly well-- you have some sympathy for them, but also they dig right under your skin in their wickedness, and the tension keeps slowly building to the point where in the end all you want is to see them get a taste of their own medicine. And by God did the story deliver.
Really, right now I think my biggest gripe with the story is a superficial one. I thought it was kind of odd how many times real-life brands popped up in the story, including ones that already had in-universe replacements. And noting that a truck was specifically a Ford F-150, instead of just saying that it was a truck, was kind of weird. But again, superficial detail. I can't blame him too much for the finer bits when I consider that he wrote the whole thing in three months and might not have proofread every last bit. The overarching story was still solid.
Also, he has quite the fixation on describing alcohol in meticulous detail, like Tom Clancy did with guns. Not a negative, just something I observed.

Oh, I've already read this-- I actually did so when it was first released to the thread back in 2017, and I've re-read it multiple times since. It's very good, and has been an inspiration for my own work.
The problem is that I never had the necessary context to follow along with everything until now, when I was finally motivated to sit down and read the preceding work to rectify things. I've been on a kick recently to go back and catch up with what I missed when it was new.
I've been here since the beginning but I feel like I just let so much that wasn't in the thread pass me by. Written works and audiobooks in particular. So much that made up the foundation the community was built on that I never experienced, despite being around to see it all. But I do firmly stand by the maxim that late is better than never.
>>

From "A Tensed Spring"

>"Swear to god, it was this big," Anneke excitedly boasts, holding her hands about a ruler's length apart. "Felt like right then I'd died and gone to heaven."

>I grimace. This girl has absolutely no decorum. I shouldn't expect much from preds in a slum, but still -- at least pretend like you've got some standards, Annie.

>"No shit!" Ozzy returns excitedly as he adjusts the strings on his beat-up guitar. "You got the full foot long treatment huh? I'm pretty happy just to get half that."

>"Yeah, and she wasn't in a sharing mood, either," Wolter kicks in. "I watched her down the whole thing like it was nothing."

>I feel my cheeks flush as I step onto the landing. Are all predators total degenerates?!

From "Make Yourself Comfortable"

>Wolt's eyes are rolled back in his head as he rocks back and forth on the cushion beside his twin.

>"Witchcraft," he gasps. "Damn, it's soooo soft. This'd be a great place to have a shag."

>Marty shakes his head, with a sour grape kind of a look plastered on his tiny face. "I can't believe I have to say this, but no fucking on the new couch."

>"What?! Hey, fuck you, that wasn't a rule with the old one!"

>He bolts to his feet. "The fuck-- yes it-- TELL ME YOU DIDN'T FUCK--"

>Wolt laughs so hard he almost rolls off the couch. I'm trying not to, myself, but come on, are you hearing this?

Very suggestible
