Writing is about pushing yourself harder than you thought you could. I put out about 1000 words of creative prose a day, on top of news copy. Or, used to put out that much. You must pick one form of unrequited love. Which tickles your schadenfreude more? Nick friendzoning Judy, or Judy turning town Nick?

I'm extremely partial to the latter, Nick being inevitably hurt by Judy after she wants to remain friends after everything is said and done. Especially since they still work together as a"great team"

Yup it basically was
>Judy feels terrible for being a racist who tries to get a fox convicted of a crime he was framed for, getting super pissed at Nick when he believes the fox is innocent, and dating the guy who accused the fox of being the criminal and as it turns out is the actual villain of the story.
>Most of the cops are silently judging her for being a screw up
>When she apologizes to the innocent fox when hes being released, the fox just tears into her for everything she did
>Nick comes along and being the perfect guy he is forgives her without issue

Also there was a very gratuitous title drop in one of the last paragraphs which made me cringe

Man, such a waste. The fic had a pretty good foundation, but it just lost all momentum when they started disagreeing on the framed fox's innocence. And then Nick has to go all vigilante to solve the crime all by himself while Judy is busy being useless.

What a mess

I guess heart-rate based shock collars would still curb population just as much, and it's far easier to measure a pulse than arousal.

Still, Nick teasing Judy to the point of getting shocked is workable.

Or as Harlan Ellison might put it, "Suck it up, bugfuck".

But yes, you're very correct that if I want to take writing seriously, I have to drive myself to do it regularly, regardless of personal mood.
And that is something I've been trying to discipline myself into for a long time.

I'm hoping I can reinforce my work-ethic at this point, as large chunk of what stopped me these past four weeks was depression and depression's favorite band-aid, alcohol.
The depression is mostly subsided and I've made a recent proclamation to myself that I'll be going sober indefinitely, so I'm hoping my head will be clear enough to avoid any discouraging roadblocks.

So here's hoping I can re-adhere to "write something every day".

I've said it before, I'll say it again

Nick likes to be in control.

Judy, while she seems very dominant personality-wise, would use bondage and sex as more of an escape to turn "off" and give herself wholly over to Nick. It's a break from being "on" all the time and constantly trying to meet expectations. With this, there's no expectations. He'll use her how he will.

And afterwards there's cuddles. Judy is smol, which makes it easy for her to be the little spoon.

Once Nick is a cop too that kinda goes out the window.

So, we can pretty safely assume that religions are similar in Zootopia to the real world, since we see that Polar Bear crossing himself.
However, since nothing exists entirely in a vacuum, we can also be pretty sure that this is some divergence in Zootopian christian sects, if only just by the virtue of everything being mammals and whatnot.
So, on that note, what weird fringe cults and practices do you think exist in Zootopia?

>So, on that note, what weird fringe cults and practices do you think exist in Zootopia?

I had a GREAT idea for this

It's a cult that worships Bellwether like she's some God, fervently believing that Preds are actual demons and that she was the messiah sent from God.

They have a ritual where they abduct one predator, and then "baptize him in holy water" which is just concentrated Night Howler serum. They then tie the pred down and ritualistically extract his heart to sacrifice to their messiah Bellwether

I think it would be Judy turning down Nick.

Honestly, he has a LOT more to lose then she does. She may try several times but, she's still achieving what she sought to do ever since she was a child. It would hurt, yes, but she would be able to move on from it.

Nick on the other hand, Judy is really one of his only true 'friends'. She is the person that brought him out from the gutter and made him a changed man, he naturally has feelings for her. Even if he played it off cool, he would still be hurt inside from being shot down, probably awkwardly admitting his feelings to her.

I can see him taking the news much worse then she.

I've had a couple in mind when doing some worldbuilding for my fic. never used them yet, though.

Church of Naboombu - a fringe religion that believes all intelligent animal live originated on a single island that was visited by a messenger from another world, named Astoroth.
A lot of what they believe is based around an original sin concept, only in this case, the sin of stealing wisdom and speech from Astoroth.

The Sons of Frith - a rural religion that mostly exists in the tri-burrows; primarily among rabbit farmers. It's closer to a druid/pagan religion.

Nick was her first friend in the city when she was lonely and hurting
Nick was the first person to believe in her ability as an officer, defending her in front of the ZPD officers
Without Nick she would have lost her job and be miserable in Bunnyburrow

I dunno. Judy's life was far from good before meeting Nick. Bogo had it out for her, nobody at the ZPD respected her. He means just as much to her as she does to him, it kinda irks me that people forget this angle. Just because Nick's had it a bit rougher as a fox and a criminal doesn't mean Judy was living the high life. She was doomed to fail.

I see the point you're making, but I also think that Nick just isn't as overt as Judy when he's in control. In fact, I see Nick pretty easily making use of that and sort of guiding her in the direction that he'd like things to move in, but wouldn't usually blatantly take charge.

Its about personality, not experience.
Think about it
Judy broke norms and went against everyones expectations to become a cop, even when the cards were against her.

Nick on the other hand gave into stereotypes and spent most of his life as a conman.

Judy is active and assertive, Nick is cool and laid back.

For most of the movie, judy does the leading while Nick does the following.

And in the end its because of Judy that Nick decided to become a cop

Likely.

The idea is more that it's an outdated and dying religion, possibly observed in more isolated communities, like Summerisle's pagans in the original Wicker Man.
The mention of it being observed mainly by rabbit farmers is more for the obligatory Watership Down nod.

Nick had his own reasons for being a cop, though.

For the first half he did plenty of butting heads with Judy, which is hardly submissive. He had to comply thanks to the carrot pen. Once they started getting along, it was more of a collaborative effort, but he let her lead because she's the cop. It's her case.

Nick is plenty resourceful, intelligent, and driven on his own. He probably would want to lead to protect Judy in dangerous situations. When it comes to taking credit, he probably tries to push more of the limelight on Judy, since he knows how much being the best means to her.

You know, what could be interesting with that is if it ends up as a offshoot of the local Christian tradition. When the church was originally colonizing pagan cultures, it ended up just absorbing a lot of the old traditions into itself. So it might be interesting if that the Religion is almost completely co-opted by the "new" and culturally dominant catholic faith. Maybe a saint or two, or somewhat creative takes on communion, that sort of thing

Captcha makes no sense. I dunno, I see their experience being just as meaningful for the both of them. I guess you're romanticizing Judy a bit too much if you see Nick as having 'more to lose'. They both mean so much to the other that it's hard thinking of one being more or less okay with rejection. We saw before that Nick meant more to Judy than being an officer when she turned in her badge.
>>3365508
In a way I agree? I think of them as the Sun and the Moon rather than dominant and submissive. Nick as the Moon can still take charge just as much as Judy, but makes more decisions with her in mind, rather than himself. This isn't to say that Judy is selfish, just more grounded in her own ways.
>>3365630
True. It may have not crossed his mind. But that isn't to say his attachment to being a good cop isn't any less genuine just because he hasn't wanted it for as long as Judy has.
Either way I don't think seeing Nick as completely idolizing Judy is healthy. He may follow behind her and support her because if how well it compliments her energetic nature, but I don't for a second think Nick would ever let Judy disrespect or walk over him. As if she ever would, because she values him just as much!

Edits of Mead on his ballin story

>really real.
Rhyming in a sentence is bad form.

>expected to experience.
See as above

>his attention was grabbed by a tapping of hooves on glass.
"The sound of tapping hooves on glass grabbed his attention."

>that demands more attention.” He pulled a folder from the stack.
Change this to:

....that demands more attention.”
"Oh?"
He pulled a folder from the stack. "Take a look, Captain," said Wolkowski as he offered the folder in question.
(Just move some things around)

> In fact-” he quickly
space here.

>reporting on the implications raised by it.
This part feels kinda flat. Throw some Bellwether cheer/animation in there, or some voice. "You remember the talk we had yesterday, Captain?"
Fournier gripped the receiver tightly, and then let the words spill from him like they were poison. "I think I know where you're going with this, and I can assure you-" he took a deep breath away from the receiver to calm himself "-Wotjek is one of my best detectives."
"After yourself, correct?"
"...Yes, after myself."
"That's just the issue. The media is all over this thing, they're calling it a 'hate crime.' We need the ZPD's best down there, maybe a face the people can trust?"

Throw something tin there. Something that sounds more like Bellwether. "The implications raised by it" is so flat.

> a desk job out of your fur.”
What

>Spit it out, do you think one of your own officers is so thickheaded he'd take personal affront to his superior
This is a fairly far reaching implication.

>“'Nothing is wrong' my ass! You pulled him off the case! What, can't a predator investigate a crime committed against a predator?”
Really? He cares about this, in this very moment, more than his shop being set on fire? And that's the first thing he jumped to? I'm a little surprised. I see how you're pushing the narrative here, but it could be more subtle.

Sure, he was more passive about his career choice, but I think that can be chalked up to a shittier family life? and more nasty stereotypes about foxes. Bunnies may be assumed to be incompetent, but foxes are assumed to be outright criminal it seems.

Also I think relationships is completely different. Nick seems mkre experienced than Judy with them. Despite being driven Judy is still incredibly naive. Nick however is cool and confident, armed with a silver tongue. I feel like he could lead a relationship much more naturally.

On the job I agree that he'd let Judy take lead. He'd trust himself with watching her back and protecting her. I feel like his more cautious nature would compliment her more zealous one. He's her support.

I dunno, there are times when I'm drunk that my texts look like that. Then I "sober up," go back to fix all the mistakes I made, feel better about it, and send them.

Then, next morning rolls around and I have no idea what I was trying to write. Same sort of thing for voicemails.

Its so important to drink lots of water. I need to drink a lot of water because I need to make sure I stay hydrated. This is a great idea, and I couldn't have thought of it without you.

>>3366159
It is all developing so well. Vertical slice for the entire level is coming great. I cant say a lot about it because as another anon rightly put it in the last thread I cant give away my identity and there is too much at risk. I have to get the game done or else I'm going to be seen as a failure in the eyes of everyone. Its literally the most important thing in my life. If I fail this everything I love will crumble away like a sandcastle being washed up by a wave.

>>3366188
Everyone needs to celebrate. I am the first one to tell my team to do so. If you don't, the failures mount up and they crush your spirit. I have to make sure everyone's spirits are raised. I need to be the motivator, the one who brings enthusiasm into their lives. We've put so much into this and I've worked so hard that if they bow out now I'm looking at standing in front of an audience with no excuses. Everyone has to be strong in the face of great challenges and I'm no exception. I need to ask you how you're doing because I really dont want to be in this mental space right now, so I'm begging you to tell me something so I can think of something else.

It's sounds like a great spot to be in. Ive just been ruminating on my ex too much and this thinking about bdsm has been bringing it back up; she was my first, we were together for more than two years, we went through so much. I just fell out of love with her as a person and I was very afraid of my kinks, which just put more stress on the relationship. If my roommate was here, he'd tell me that I'm being stupid and the relationship was cancerous, but I still want it. I still want to have sex for hours with her in her shitting apartment, while listening to Interpol, finally collapsing next to her, talking about a future that won't and shouldn't exist, and fall asleep in a bed that's too small, but we fit if we cling together just right. That sucks, but my life is really fine; I'm in law school, I volunteer to help people, and I like who I am. Also, I get to write smutty stories and people actually like them. It's nice.

Same, when I'm -kind- of drunk. There's a difference between comfy drunk and smashed, though. Comfy drunk me is confident about my skill and wants to get ideas onto paper, even if the execution is a bit sloppy. Smashed drunk me hammers out paragraph after paragraph of complete gibberish, then gets sidetracked by more alcohol and throwing up.

Yeah I just can't see Judy being dominant in their love life.

On the job it's more of an equal thing. Like, is there a word for "following by choice"? Cause I wouldn't call him submissive. It's more like...supportive? She's a little ball of energy and good intentions and he wants to make sure everything goes according to plan.

I like seeing them both contribute to their job equally, like in the movie. Judy's by-the-book skills and Nick's street skills really go well together.

Aussie anon here,

whether or not 'shit' is a complement or insult depends on the tone in which it is delivered. Due to the fact such tones are difficult to relate online
'the shit' is commonly used to refer to calling something 'shit' in a positive sense

Hpwever you will more commonly see us using the word 'cunt' in positive or negative senses;

Sickcunt = Compliment
Shitcunt = Insult

Yeah.

We pick up a lot of stuff from our parents, who pick it up from their parents, etc. (Along with very educational books to teach us cows go moo)

But in the far past, there's got to be the first person to encounter something, and who first hears its sound. They'll write down how they hear it, and teach it to their kids.

But of course, the world is a large place, and there's many firsts happening in different places.

Like, what's the fucking meta for Japanese onomatopoeia? When americans mess with paper it crinkles. When americans crush an aluminum can it crunches. When, in any part of the world let alone Japan, does a hug sound like gyuuuu?

I don't understand this whole assumption that every sexual relationship has to be super focused on a submissive/dominant dynamic with bdsm. Isn't it still at least sort of a niche kind of thing?

I agree Nick would take the lead with sex, but just because he is older and Judy moved out of her parent's house just months ago.
>>
>>3367034
I'd actually stay away from erection, personally speaking. I tend to use length and shaft, and avoid too much repetition by specifying parts instead of just referring to the whole thing

So instead of "massaged his shaft" maybe they're massaging the underside specifically. It's a delicate balancing act that's kinda tough to manage, especially when you're talking about a female character because so many of the words for their vag are just gross sounding or really vulgar. I cheat a lot by using "him" or "her" instead of specifying. "Wrapped her hand around him", "drew his fingers on the edges of her", etc.

I cheat that way a lot more for women than men, and I tend to use descriptors more for them, like "her burning core" because somehow that manages to sound better than pretty much any smutty word for it I can think of

Learning about cultural differences like this is really cool.

A good recent example I found was The Boy and the Beast; my brother was really disappointed by it, even though it was (i think?) the second biggest Japanese film of 2015. What my family thought was a convoluted plot and unnecessary story elements were the reasons the Japanese enjoyed it so much.
The themes of self-discovery, enlightenment, sacrifice, and familial loyalty that bored my family really resonated with the Japanese audience.

Recognizing these rifts, why they occur and why people interpret things differently is really neat.

A lot of people like the sexual dynamic of sub/dom. If you don't agree then no harm. We just don't know about their bedroom life.

I just don't like when sub/dom is used to describe their non-sexual relationship in public or at work. It isn't that simple I guess is the short answer.

People take the tie tugging or her go-getter attitude as dominance. Forgetting how naive and unsure Judy can be. Forgetting that Nick is plenty competent and has his own drive.

With the Gideon thing specifically, it's more a matter that I have what I think is a well-written beginning (though, I'm sure there can be edits to improve bits of things), and a well-written climax moment (literally and figuratively), but that I... well, I just get this murky sensation trying to link the two.

I don't know. I just can't find a way to even think of this in my head that doesn't make me groan in a bad way. I just picture these apex predators going into Gideon's place, he says something like "Oh, sorry there, but we're closed", and they're all like "Time to put your little slutty faggot ass up on the table!" "Time to knead you up, you dough-ho!" And then barbed penis in the face.

I definitely get this. Nick seems like he knows how to compliment Judy just right. I just don't like saying submissive because other people seem to have negative connotations about it. Like Nick doesn't care or is unsure of himself. He just wants to make Judy happy and watch her back so she's safe, and is naturally more laid back. Either that or it's more of an equal partner thing, with just lots of bants.

I wouldn't mind reading that article
>>3367480
I get how the quip to Bogo at the end of the movie creates this trope, but it's just so exaggerated. If anything it was just to show how comfy Nick had become at the ZPD; I'm sure everyone gives Bogo some hell every now and then when things are light. Bogo even jokes towards them, making the 'parking duty' joke.

The idea that Nick would be such a jackass to put his job in danger is dumb. If not for his own love of the job then at least for the sake of not making Judy look bad, I mean cmon.

Conversely, I hate the trope where Judy is such a workaholic that she seems to prioritize it over Nick, and acts just generally bitchy

And so do I but dangit it just annoys me. The rest of the bullpen laughs at it so it's pretty clear that it's just their version of banter especially considering, like you said, Bogo's chummy enough with them to joke around

There was actually a story, can't remember the name off the top of my head right now, where Clawhauser mentions to Nick that rabbits tend to burn out really easily, and Nick starts noticing that she's not taking nearly enough time for her own life and sets out to gently correct that, and that was probably the best depiction of Judy's workaholic tendencies I've seen yet

Oh for sure I'm not saying Judy isn't a workaholic, just that she'd be one within reason, and wouldn't let it change how she acted towards her lover. Another reason why I see Nick as such a supportive partner towards her.

If Judy pushes Nick forward, then it's Nick that winds Judy down.

Yeah, most people immediately think of submission as purely involuntary and as proof of inferiority. Personally I would really enjoy the "following by choice" you propose, or better yet, an equal partnership. But both seem really difficult to pull off.

Now I'm reminded that Rucka's back to basically invalidate the last 5 years of Wonder Woman, for better or worse.

No, I get exactly what you mean. Nick is her...I don't wanna say stepping stone because that sounds selfish and implies that she leaves him behind. Her foundation? She's able to surge forward because Nick has her back 100%, and he propels her to new heights because he knows he can keep up. But at the same time he's the cautious one, helping her slow down and walk around obstacles that otherwise she'd try to plow right through and keeps her from getting ahead of herself.

Sometimes I just like distancing from sub/dom dynamic because it just isn't all-encompassing. It's not like bedroom play. Sun and Moon, Hot and Cold, Yin and Yang...Nick and Judy are very well fleshed out characters and I think looking at them through a bunch of different perspectives is more helpful than one. And I'll definitely google that, sounds like a cool read.

Speaking of hot and cold, anyone else see Judy as Ruby and Nick as Sapphire if they get in a fight? Obviously wouldn't be so pronounced, but for the sake of the reference?

That's part of it. And, really, it's a core thing behind a lot of bisexuality and the evergreen popularity of traps, twinks, crossdressers, etc.

If you'll forgive a shitty analogy, if you've ever played a MOBA then Nick is the support and Judy is the carry.

But you said it perfectly. And sometimes Judy just needs to drop her guard and Nick is there to comfort her. I'm a huge faggot and romanticizing this like Nick is her guardian or something, but it's just too tempting.

The end of the movie tells me they are more equal partners than I'm making them out to be, so I kinda want to rescind. They just compliment each other so well and I am rambling. It's really hard for me to see one as being more important to the other, or one taking such obvious charge in their work life. I feel if anything the dynamic would be really subtle. Like they just naturally fit together.

Now that you mention it, it does feel a bit like he was trying to be weird in a non-Morrison way.

And the Zoo Crew sounds like it actually could have been a connection, if only DC was Disney's or Zootopia was Warner's.

>>3367898

>>

>>3367894

Chicken Little has a shitton of problems, and they're mostly related to how Disney was at the time: Pixar's threatening to leave, 2D Animation is starting to die out, and Dreamworks (RIP) is bringing in the big bucks.

It, as movie, is poorly thought out, made with the mindset that they can make an animated CG movie with edge, that they don't need Pixar, that they improved since they made Dinosaur.

But the world was not fleshed out. The animal people sometimes make jokes about being animals, but they aren't even a fourth as clever as Zootopia is.

Buck Cluck is a shitty father who lets the will of the town influence him being ashamed of his own son, until the point that CL is beyond a shadow of a doubt correct about the aliens. They tried to make him flawed, but went so bad that Buck just looked like an asshole who goes with the flow and doesn't like his son for who he is.

Foxy Loxy, who's unpleasant, essentially get mind warped into being someone that other people PREFER her as, not who she really is. The joke is less funny than it is incredibly fucked up if you think about the ramifications.

...But hey, at least it wasn't AS shitty as Home on the Range, at least Chicken Little was the most pointless summon in Kingdom Hearts II.
>>
>>3368171
(Arm falls off.)
>>
>>3368102
The human brain is designed to see and judge very small details of other human's faces. It's why we tell each other apart by look has opposed to most animals using scent. It's why bad CG humans hit that uncanny valley. You don't have that with animals because the usual cues our brain looks for in what is attractive aren't found on animals. So our brain goes for simpler stuff like good symmetry, seeing if there are no missing features (two eyes/ears/etc), and if it looks healthy. Humans have found animals attractive/appealing since we were fuckers living caves. Some of the oldest art made by humans is of animals.

It might be a craigslist sort of thing: A meet-n-fuck for people who want to experiment.

I know that this is based off of actual LGBT nightclubs in European cities and various places where you literally do wear a certain bracelet and then you just have to like nod with someone-- somebody you don't even know their name, and then you get lead to a tent or something.

I don't know. I still find that kind of terrifying.

I mean, there's being 'sex positive', and then there's 'I literally don't have any evidence that this guy isn't a serial killer'.

Are there any stories that actually try to look at the management and organization of 'Bounce Houses' and how it gets handled dealing with some just coming in creepily to watch, how the age of consent gets treated, how the enforcement of everyone using contraception goes, and the like?

There could be a really cute situation detailed between a white braceleted hare and like a tiger, both of them teens, and they try to find their own corner being awkward about getting it up and keeping it up. Maybe the sub guy is too tight so it can't quite fit. They kiss and maybe use a toy as aid so that they both spooge on and not in each other, but they kiss. Something clumsily romantic.
