So I just watched Zootopia and can't shake something off. Isn't this guy the real big bad? He is the source of everything by abusing his subordinate so much.
>>83647704No. There are a million things she could've done that didn't involve inducing insanity in random people and causing a race war.
>>83647704J.K. Simmons is always in the right.ALWAYS.
>>83647764he still didn't get any real punishment. He's smug at the end because he knows all the blame will be pinned on bellwether and what he did wrong will never be known. That's fucked up
>>83647848He was in jail you dumb shit.
>>83647704Just because a character had an indirect influence on events, that doesn't make them the main villain. This is what's known as a "greater scope villain". Essentially, a greater antagonistic force in the setting as a whole, but without necessarily having a direct role in the actual plot of the story. Spoiler, because I know how poor, delicate, oversensitive 4chan gets triggered by the mere reference to other websites.
>>83647848He ended the movie in jail, Anon. Also, your waifu fucked up pretty baaaaah-d.
>>83647924>>83647888he's probably not upset over that knowing he will be released very soon
>>83647963What do you base that on? He was jailed for kidnapping and holding animals captive not because he was the cause of everything.
>>83647704He wasn't abusing her. Sure he stepped over her but I doubt he was the only one too. Seems most likely she had a buildup of repressed feelings and her supposed partner being another dick probably didn't help.
She could've quit if she hated her job so much.
>>83647704>83647704its a stupid kids show ''animals are like humans but fish and bugs are still fish and bugs despite being animals too''
>Thinking it was Lionheart that made her evilShe was a power hungry cunt who just hated how he treated her, she didn't give a shit about predators, she just wanted power
>>83648139All the talking animals in this movie were specifically mammals you dumb bitch.
>>83647848He ended the movie in jail and his political career is likely over. And he's only sort of accidentally evil- he had the savage animals locked up and hidden partly because he didn't want to cause a panic (which is what happened after they were found, mind you) and partly because he was worried about how the predators going savage might affect his career, what with him being a predator himself. He'll have a hell of a book deal though.
>>83647704No, he was trying to keep a race war from breaking out because he knew what people would assume from this. The movie lacked the real fear prey animals had of predators. Judy's parents filled us in on that a little, but they weren't even from the more progressive Zootopia. There, we only saw that people are racist against foxes mostly, but also rabbits. Oh and I guess Yax was racist for assuming that the elephant had a good memory.
>>83648175Oh so that means that the fish and bugs are not animals, they are something else!See? The movie is so poorly made writting wise that they can't even come up with a scenario that makes sense
>I can do bad things because some guy was mean to me!Please don't defend this logic.
>>83647704You can't justify her actions because her boss was a rude dick. She was an insane tyrant.

>>83648228The racists analogies don't work when they are based on the truth.Yes, rabbits are mostly useless animals, yes foxes are asses to other animals and the predators fucking kill animals to live! Again, the same movie that has all those animals killing and eating fish... fucking dumb as fuck
>>83648191didn't he try to KILL our heroes when they snuck into his horror lair?
>>83647704He was kind of a jerk, but alot of things that he pushed on her (that we seen on the film) could be pinned on the fact that he was dealing with a situation that Bell Wether caused.
>>83647704Nah, even his coverup of the predator violence was pretty much justified, regardless of whether there was a selfish component. He was preventing a widespread public panic that would have hurt a segment of the population until they could figure out what was going on, but the "heroes" of the story had to go invade a government black site, reveal what was going on to the public, and imply that there was a genetic component to the crimes based on unfinished, half-baked evidence, and start a wave of riots and hate crimes. He was the real hero the whole time.
Would you rather share a cell with Lionheart or Bellwether
>>83648295Yes and that's not a excuse.Dolphins are mamals but they are also mostly fish, they live in the water, finns, etc.Its just really dumb to have a movie in which dolphins can talk and go to school while sharks would just be dumb sharks despite a ton of qualities with a dolphin

I'm pretty sure the depiction of the press in this scene was more "hysterical" and "frenzied" than "gotta get the facts! we're all about journalistic integrity!" The scene wasn't really about journalistic integrity as it was about how much the media absolutely jumps on any blurb, no matter how easily falsifiable or how foundationless the claim, and parrots it for millions of ears to hear. The media has a lot of responsibility, and it failed spectacularly in Zootopia, just like it does in the real world.

>>83648728In Tundratown, there's a business with the word "fish" in it. There's also a "blubber chef" which means that there are unseen seals and walruses probably flopping around awkwardly trying to live among land mammals.
>>83649306Who gets to speak at the podium might not be up to Bogo. Similarly to how Assistant Mayor Bellweather basically got to strongarm him into letting Judy take the missing Otterton case, he might have had to grin and bear it when they told him Judy would be taking the podium following him.

>>83648521more like jailbait
>>83649183>every fish is dumb but Dolphins are not because they are mammalsThis is literally the truth tho. Now, some non-mammals like octopuses (again, not fish) are very intelligent, but mammals still have the most developed brains of the animal kingdom.

>>83649450I might be misremembering, but didn't Bellweather sort of rush her to the podium?
I also watched this movie for the first time today and aside from the heavy handedness of the race/discrimination allegory, I thought it was an ok movie. My mom and sister on the other hand didn't like it because they had no idea that it was going to be a buddy cop film, and were expecting "something funny like the penguins of madagascar."
>>83649657What I'm asking is, how are mammals more evolved if everything evolves that the same rate?Actually most of the successful (large) mammalian species, humans, bears, elephants etc. are K-type reproducers so they evolve much slower than other organisms.
>>83649830>everything evolves that the same rateThey don't.
>>83649830If the first trailer is to be believed mammals are just taking the place of humans. So you can just argue that since Mammals filled that vaccum, all other species just had to respond to Mammal's dominance, resulting in them falling into the same lots.>>83649916Technically they do, don't they? The issue is not everything is just evolving to the same "destination".

Nah, he was just kind of a cunt. It's not like he gave her the night howlers and told her to go nuts or something. He was the catalyst, not the villain.
>>83648358This! He did mostly nothing wrong!Just imagine what would have happened if he did nothing. The wild predators would run free and maul everything in sight. Countless civilians would have been killed and sooner or later the wild predators would have been caught and looked up anyway. If Judy didn't fucked up, his scientists probably would have found a cure sooner or later and than the victims could have been cured. After that he would have gone to the public to explain the situation. The only thing he have done wrong is that he should have informed the police Chief and the families of the victims in secret by explaining the delicate situation. I'm sure no family member would want to spread the fact that one of their loved ones turned into a wild beast. And with the police in the boat he could have found the culprits much easier after they would have found the source of the madness. He just didn't do that because of the fear of losing his position.
>>83653386>getting triggered
>>83648562>it's not like she knew any other option.Nick gave her the other option, do not actually answer the press. Merely state what you want to state as if they asked you.
>>83647704This is actually my biggest problem with the movie, the motivation of the bad guy, or should I say lack of motivation. So her boss was a cunt... and? Almost everyone's boss is. Boo fucking hoo, Judy's boss was the meanest character in this entire movie. So this lion bumped into her here and there, gave her a funny name and a stupid mug. 10/10 amazing backstory to creating a monster! Best Disney villain EVER guys!!But seriously, the worse part is he could have easily been a prey animal and treated her the same way; judy's shitty boss was a prey animal and he was worse. I wanted to see an actual reason why Bellwether hated preds specifically, but she just didn't have one. She disliked this one guy for being a jerk and it didn't have anything to do with what he was. Sorry, that isn't the way prejudice usually works in real life, people don't just wake up one day and decide to hate other groups of people. If you want to treat the problem of racism, you have to actually acknowledge the symptoms that cause it. It's not like the Islamophobia people have today was something randomly pulled out of a hat, and it wasn't just the actions of one person being a jerk that caused it... this movie would have you believe that, though. Hell, even the now popular hate being thrown at white people today stems from actual shitty white people with backwards ideas who can't stop making asses of themselves in public/on the news. But I see why they went the route they did. This is a "The preds didn't do nuthin" story, because if they complicated things and actually gave Bellwether a reason to dislike the preds, then suddenly the story, and racism by extension, is given an uncomfortable ambiguity. It was either that, or the story not making sense, and they obviously went with 'not making sense' since the former option was out of the question.
>>83648327>This was the last photo taken of former mayor Lionheart. He was shanked by a weasel in the chow line later that day.
>>83648327Disney missed so many opportunities for Oz references
>>83649420Okay, the guy you're arguing with is a retard, because the premise of the movie is that humans never evolved, primates don't exist, and somehow every other mammalian species evolved to fill the sapient niche. All very unlikely to happen, and what the hell happened with all those vacant mammalian niches?, but hey this is what Suspension of Disbelief is for.But I take umbrage to the statement that mammals are more evolved than other organism.Nothing is more evolved than anything else, that's not how evolution fucking works. You might say more sophisticated, or more intelligent...in which case I'd say what the fuck about birds, because their physiology has leaves most mammal body architecture in the proverbial dust...I'm getting off-point.Don't say something is more evolved than something else because that's dumb. That is my point.
>>83654975That's kind of why it works though. You don't need some big reason to be a racist, just a bunch of little reasons. They don't even have to specifically tie into race, you can just project that meaning onto them.
>>83654975Bellweather didn't hate predators. She just used them as a political stepping stone, as a method of gaining power. She is just fearmongering, painting another (very small) group as monsters and horrors and painting herself as the town's savior, in a bit to take control of power and hold onto it.What made you think she was scared of predators? She's not scared of Lionheart, outside fearing that her appearance as a devoted vice-mayor is in jeopardy. Hell, she was fine with pissing him off and ignoring his request in order to help Judy with finding the savage animals. She showed no indication of being afraid of Nick. She showed no indication of being afraid of anyone in prison - if she really was traumatized by some predator in her past, then she would likely be terrified of having large predators sitting right next to her and groping her hairpuff while she was defenseless in chains.>It's not like the Islamophobia people have today was something randomly pulled out of a hatWhat makes you think that every single "deport all Muslims" politician holds a secret paranoid fear of Islam? Of course they don't. They're just politicking the anti-Muslim agenda, because that's popular with the public and that gives them votes. And if they want to make up an agenda just to spread it around and get people to fear a small group in order to net votes, then they'll do that, too. Trump and his "Mexicans are stealing your jobs!" is basically exactly this, and it's something that's been happening in American politics for decades now. You'd have to be blind or this movie would have to be your first good look at politics for you not to notice.

He's not being arrested for trying to solve the problem. He's arrested for violating laws in doing so.If he's set up a special wolf task force to just catch the savage people running around, and set up an official secure hospital ward where the savage people couldn't get out - basically, what was done after Lionheart was removed - then he wouldn't be in jail.
The road to Hell is paved with the best of intentions.
>>83656490That's half legal; hospitals have the obligation to hold people who are a threat to others or themselves.
>>83656562Hospitals don't have the authority to grab random people off the street and hide them in some basement room without anyone knowing, though. They're limited to specific uses of tranquilizer (specifically to their submitted patients, and only if they're a danger to others) and are required to have information about their patients on-hand and available to proper authorities (police and likely family/next of kin).Lionheart had none of that. He wasn't operating a registered hospital, he was grabbing people off the streets, and he wasn't notifying the police or family when it happened. That's why it was kidnapping.

>>83654975>Judy's boss was the meanest character in this entire movie. That's the entire point. It's supposed to show two sides to the same coin. Judy and Bellwether are both tiny predators abused by their bosses who have a history of abuse by predators. But while Bellwether internalized her hate and used it against people, Judy turned her frustrations into something positive. Either side of this story can happen to anyone. In Zootopia you can be whatever you want.

It's something that has been bugging scientists since the invention of taxonomy because they can never be sure if something the locals found is an actual discovery or just common bush that has already been identified but named differently.Search up mountain lions if you want. Mountain screamer is kind of guessable but it's impossible to see them as "purple feathers".
>>83657718I like to think Bellwether was in a play like Judy when she was young, going all "Zootopia is a place where even I, a sheep, can become MAYOR!"If we look at the facts, she got her wish. She even had the nameplate and everything.
Why did no-one involved in the production of this shit realise that a sheep is actually considerably bigger than a rabbit.
>>83656317>Bellweather didn't hate predators. She just used them as a political stepping stone, as a method of gaining power.Did miss her end speech? She even had power at that point; if it was just about that she already won, but no, that wasn't enough. She was vindictive; it wasn't enough to paint the predators "bad", they even already had that rep at that point. No, she wanted to destroy them, and her tone and facial expression even turned orgasmically evil while she talked about it.

Nick runs in Zootopia's mayoral election and wins. What changes does he bring?
>>83678484>picture for ants
>>83678498Every mammal must give their mayor a big ol' smacker on the lips if they meet the following requirements:1. They're a rabbit2. Their name is Judy Hopps
>>83678466
>all mammal species are generally intellectually equivalentWhy even let large mammals live when a lemming can do all the same work for one thousandth of the cost? Race war now.
>>83678192Like every other fox in Zootopia. Speciesism sucks.
>>83678192source?
>>83678745>specie
just watched this fucking movie, pretty clever.lot of good clever fanart, but browsing through it is like walking through a minefield.
>>83678807Well, he went to the ranger scouts at about 8 or so, got muzzled, and since that day has done everything in his power to maintain his crafty confox image, even though its killing him inside.
>>83652579this, senpai. she actually tried to explain to Bogo that what Weaselton had wasn't just mouldy onions but because the only name for them she'd ever heard was its latin name, she failed to make the connection between the nighthowlers and the concentrated crazy plants she had back home. It's a smart little detail that really shines through.
>>83648562Bottomline, it was a shallow theme in a shallow world.I've argued it a million times, do-no-wrong-Disney fanatics say I'm full of shit.Occasionally, I'll get a few people who agree with me.The gist of it is, with modern, politically-correct Disney, you will never have a 'great' movie. Maybe a 'good' movie every once and awhile, but the fact of the matter is it's difficult to have deep or compelling themes while catering to the lowest common denominator, which is the liberal media that can and will get riled up over the smallest details.>Case and point, fucking public bathroomsAnyways, I'll say it once, and I'll say it again......>Anthropomoprhic characters work best when it's used for characterization and when they're not self-aware
>>83678897>Nighthowlers>A common enough plant that fucking hick rabbits use them to ward off pests>Fucking scientists can't put two-and-two together>Despite, out of the dozens of feral animals....>None of them have fucking residue of the fucking injectionToo many things conveniently happen in this story
Nick and Judy have a fight which results in Nick accidentally killing Judy when
>>83678931>Robin Hood fanNo wonder you have such bad taste. If you're going to have anthropomorphic characters, you need to do something with that. If the characters are animals and nothing is different, it's a waste. They might as well be appliances, toys, or humans.
>>83648372>Dolphins are mamals but they are also mostly fish, they live in the water, finns, etc.
>>83648796>other fishYou're subtle. I'll give you that.
I see the dolphin propaganda is alive and well in this thread.
>>83673479>but they can also live like rabbits in Watership downwe don't speak of that evil.
>>83675227DUDE WEED LMAO
>>83647704He's the Trump/Bloomberg stand-in, but their policies are very different. The only resemble each other because they are both gold and lions. Also, is he a bad guy? No. He's a cunt, but he doesn't want to start a panic by saying that there's an unchecked"disease" running around.
>>83648191Also if all predators could be corrupted, and the mayor is a Predator, then the entire symbol of the gov, of the mayor is compromised. The golden symbol is tarnished.
>>83678931Clearly you weren't around in the 90s when they habitually played it safe.
