Wasn't Frozen huge in Japan as well?
>>82317398it was the third highest ranking movie in their box office history. Behind titanic and spirited away. I guess they had leo fever in japan too. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_highest-grossing_films_in_Japan
>>82317398Yes, Japan are huge Disney shills and can't stop sucking Disney cock. I'm not sure why Japanese people love Disney to such and extreme degree.
>>82317398Ana to Yuki no Jouou was off-the-scale huge. This one's likely not up there, but it's still got time to run in theaters.
>>82317449At least their westaboo fanart is kicking into gear.
>>82317454As well as their Engrish.
A lot of things got pops in Japan in defiance of any logic. Also, threads are split again.
Yess, yesss, make that billion come true, and overthrow those yellow faggots!Frozen will never be beaten bit second place of all times is great nonetheless
>>82317459damn I haven't been seeing any engrish, just bizarre shit like this.
Even if we get the billion, it won't come quick. The most Frozen ever made in a weekend in Japan was $11M, and that was Frozen. Japan has significantly fewer theaters than we do, and also fewer people. Settle in for the long haul.
>>82317339God damnit 4chan I thought they were holding up pregnancy tests in the first panel. Fuck you guys.
>>82317398I would hope so, considering the core of the plot was stolen from naruto
>>82317573Zootopia-themed ones. With art of Bonnie on them.
It's doing better than DSODFuck you DisneyNow the Arc-V cucks are going to get their budget back
>>82317339Do they really get popcorn chicken mixed in with their popcorn in Japan?Japan is a magical place.
Thank God Civil War didn't really affect this movie's performance. I loved Civil War btw
>tfw these 28 monitors doesn't have any new finnick scenesHe's my favorite side character, every scene with him was gold.Maybe he was at the dance party in some country... We only saw Chinese rip.
>>82317656The tax cat and this guy are my fave side characters. He plays the "Catsio". Ha! Get it..?
>>82317656MINUTESFUCK AUTOCORRECT
>>82317679Music cat is objectively the best side character.
If the bunnyposter from /b/ is reading this, i gotta say, thank you, you're the hero /b/ needs
Aren't police supposed not to speak let alone speculate publicly about an ongoing investigation? What possessed Judy to claim biology is at fault?
I always want to read their longer review of the movies (Frozen and Zootopia) I don't mean like a paper or something but just longer or more engaged than tweets. Like their 2chan threads or something. I hate Facebook translation but that's the only way I get translation for shitty posts I want to read.
>>82317729They generally don't, but sometimes it does happen in real life. The combo of non press skilled cop and reporters that demand answers can lelead to bass sound bites.
>twink was Nickwas does she mean by this
>>82317640I think that's just the premium caramel popcorn. I dunno what's different about the premium caramel, because I managed to get regular caramel popcorn half-and-half in my bucket with a little paper divider down the middle and it wasn't any more expensive than the base price.
>>82317339Oh yes yes, I was following some Japanese and Chinese westaboos mostly for their Gravity Falls art and their Zootopia art exploded lately. Lots of cute Judy/Nick shipping art. They love it!
>>82317339How is the movie in Japan? Haven't been to these threads for days
>>82317448Well considering it's what inspired their anime, I'd say that's to be expected

>>82317782>chocolate marshmallow pizzafuck me that looks nice
>>82317448They suck western cock in general. Probably helps that it isn't full of loli.
>>82317796Decent but not spectacular on the first weekend. Would have been 1st place if not for their annual Golden Week Detective Conan movie being really popular.Still, the three times I managed to go last weekend, the theater was sold out each time.
>>82317849>the theater was sold out each time.Good to hear. How do they keep their laughter during the funny parts?
>>82317732Would like to see how their guys think about the movie. The kind of pictures and tweets we get are from girls. Girls posting photos to show they watch Disney is not really about the content of the show
>>82317878First couple times, on Saturday, they kept their volume down to mild chuckling. Laughing but quietly so as not to disturb others. Sunday night there was a row of teen or college girls behind my row who were a little louder for those parts, but not so much you that couldn't hear the next lines.Everyone around the world finds the DMV hilarious, apparently.
>mfw the Hibiki Sound Euphonium movie is getting massacred by furries at the Japanese box office
>>82317898
>>82317902I guess many people believe the DMVs are slow as sloths. So they relate to it.
>>82317902>Everyone around the world finds the DMV hilarious, apparently.I can attest to this.
>>82317830Fucking americaboosDreaming about buying guns and jerking off to casual not animated sex
>>82317809this is exactly what I've been looking for famalam
>>82317936Yeah, but it's Tokyo. If you want to get from A to B, you take the train. There's simply not enough roads there for everyone to be driving, so I don't know how many people actually use a DMV.
>>82317954They should convert to Christianity while they're at it.
>>82317878East Asian and particularly Japanese theaters are much better at that than American ones.
>>82317976If there's a car, there's a DMV.
>>82317976I think it has to do with the fact that anyone can relate with slow and inefficient bureaucracy in general, rather than the DMV specifically.
>>82317849Curious, if you've been there for te past couple of months in Japan, how well was the turn out for Kizumonogatari and the Sound Euphonium movie? Packed I assume?
And there was enough of the appropriate startle reflex during my favorite glance-aside-and-watch-the-audience moment of the film.
>>82317782Don't break my headcanon of them having popcorn chicken mixed in with their popcorn.
>>82317976They probably know what American DMV are like from movies
>>82317902>Everyone around the world finds the DMV hilarious, apparently. It's basically why my father wanted to see the movie. It is one thing that has universal appeal.
>>82318053>It's basically why my father wanted to see the movie.Same here. He was sold the first time he saw that trailer.
>>82318013Basically the more sluggish and less chaotic version of permit A38
>>82318030Not the past couple months. I flew in on the 21st and flew out on the 25th. It was a very hastily-booked vacation decided on solely because: >Hey, Zootopia comes out on the 23rd over there>Hmm, yeah, I guess I can afford to put that on Visa>All right, time to file for a passport
>>82317902>>82317976Government bureaucracy is universally slow, though Japan's is probably better than America's because of SHAMEFUR DISPRAY.
>>82318083Must suck if your assigned clerk commits suicide because of a lost document.
>>82318065Something I wondered, what's the Japanese word for "hustle"?

>>82318203Okay Professor, then how do you say "Jude the Dude" in Japanese?
>>82317921>caring about yuribait orchestra shitServes you right
>>82318203Now if only it was Norio.
>>82318127I think he used 詐欺. Or 詐欺師. It's been a week since I watched the dub.>>82318269Now this, I remember. In the dub he called her "Ju-Ju" and the subtitles were "ジュディ・ディ" or "Judy-dy".
>>82318290I'd take Sugita as an adequate substitute

Were the rumors true that the racial undertones were severely downplayed in the dub?
>>82318398>New beer comes out called Hopps Wilde>it's an IPA so it's garbage though
>>82318403maybe it's the cheeks, I think they like the cheeks.
>>82318398Well, their Happy Set toys changed to something relatively plain and generic just in time for the movie to come out. If only we could have had another SPONGE-BOBBURU with Nick and Judy toys.
Press F to pay respects
>>82318438Holy shit, I haven't seen it yet but does Judy really die?? Fuck
>>82318411Nope. In fact, the poster who posted that rumor posted again a bit later in the thread to say it was all a ruse. The whole 肉食動物 thing was left in as-is.
>>82317448Disney inspired many early japanese animators.
>>82318448yes she dies F
What do the Japs think of Gideon?
>>82318448Not there. That part comes a little bit later in the childrens book.

>>82318573>He thinks that a beer that is purposefully made wrong is goodI've yet to see a single IPA maker that didn't think that just adding more hops to the recipe was the answer to why it tasted awful.
>>82317729It's entirely possible that it was Bellwether's job to coach her on what to say. A job which obviously she would've sabotaged, or ignored outright.
>Sakai Masako dubs NickMy respect for this man. He is a legend in J-dramaThe Taiwanese dub Nick was a professional voice actor. Professional but not impressive. (Better than the celeb dub of Judy) (Disney's Taiwanese celeb dub were always disappointments)The Chinese dub was Zhang Zheng. Not very impressive IMO.
>>82318403It's honestly kind of impressive how they made his face look like that. You can almost see the normal sized skeletal structure under all that extra fluff.
>>82318603"Bully"
>>82318389Perhaps they detected the Judy/Nick shipping was being hyped
>>82318551Makes sense if this poll of teenage girls reflects wider Japanese audience sentiments.

>>82318677Crowhouser-kun is kawaii neko-neko, desu
>>82317806The connection between Disney and anime is tenuous, and it's been over fifty years since then.Everyone likes Disney, and maybe Japan likes them more than others because they like animation in general more than others.>>82317921Movies based on late night anime can't expect to have the box office performance of mainstream animation, such as the Detective Conan movie that's currently #1 (and leads Zootopia by about $18 million), and it's not a zero sum game where people can only watch movie and every movie has the exact same audience. Also, I don't think there are many furries in Japan.>>82318270>baitYes, anything you don't like has to be bait. Just like on 4chan.
>>82317448Disney was a nazi and they love nazis
>>82318745It's a general-audiences movie, not a depends-on-the-furry-enthusiasts one.

Damn this guy's stuff looks like 80s akira toriyama
>>82318843They might have just been looking for a way to make up a pet name. Maybe "the Dude" refers only to Big Lebowski in Japan and they didn't want to confuse people.
>>82318847Of course he's a big fuzzy cat now they can draw the patented anime kitty mouth :3 and little pink tongue sticking outOh maybe he could be playing with a little ball of yarn and twitching his little tail

>>82318745Euphonium is the epitome of Yuri bait. Riena and Kumiko act like total dykes towards each other and the show goes out of its way to make them seem gay for each other but NOPE they have male love interetsThat's why it is yuribait
>>82319044The Japanese don't like non-whites, just like the Chinese and Koreans. When they hear Foreigner or Westerner; or watch a foreigner movie that's a cartoon they instantly view them all as white people and or with blonde and blue eyes. >>82322029I'm not sure what assigned seating means in Japan, but in Finland you get to choose your own seat when you buy the ticket.
>>82321920Completely, not really. It'd take me time and a dictionary and I'm headed to bed. But the gist of it:- Judy gets two Gazelle tickets- She wants to go with Nick- Nick says he and Finnick are going to a casino that night- Judy takes the ticket over towards Clawhauser instead- Nick calls up Finnick and cancels real quick- Bogo and Clawhauser end up buying their own tickets and getting in anyway
>>82322029>>82322130Well, yeah. When you buy the ticket on the kiosk, it shows a map of available seats and you click on the one you want out of what hasn't been sold yet. You get to choose your own seat, as long as it's one that someone else hasn't chosen yet.
>>82322130Usually the tickets tell you which seat you are supposed to take, though that is only a problem if the theater is completely filled. We just sat where we wanted because we couldn't find our row as the movie had already started.

>>82322029Nah assigned seating is great. Even though you arrive late, as long as you bought your ticket early, no motherfucker can take your seat.We have that in Flipland for newly released movies. It usually goes away when the movie hits its second or third week.

>>82322220My tickets in Tokyo were 1800 yen standard, 2800 yen for Premiere Box Seating. What the latter means is placement in the center row(s) of the theater, little divider walls, extra legroom, and a personal desk to place your bags/popcorn/etc. Normally I wouldn't ever buy a ticket that expensive, but it was like, "Eh, I'm on vacation, I'm heading home in the morning, no idea when I'll be back here, might as well splurge just this once."

>>82322804I'm glad they're still separate entities. there's also the fact that the relative duds from Pixar have all been from directors outside their big four (that being Andrew Stanton, John Lasseter, Pete Docter and Brad Bird) so yeah, now you mention it the dip could well be the result of the cross-pollination not working out so well, which is a real pity. Still, I'm hopeful for Finding Dory and I understand Pixar's doing another original film somewhere between Cars3 and Incredibles 2.frankly I'm just glad there's so much activity in the animation space right now.

>>82323668but he found himself
>>82323430>Can you tell me more about this? Zootopia's story blew me the fuck away, every time I figured I knew what was coming I was wrong.Long story short, Zootopia used to be a more overtly dystopian place with a bright and colorful veneer juxtaposed with the reality of predators treated as second class citizens by the prey in power and made to wear shock collars that automatically inflict pain if they get too excited (probably measured by heart rate or something) based on questionable pseudoscientific views about predators and their biological impulses. But at the same time, it was supposed to be a healing story about how Nick and Judy brought the apartheid to an end and bridged the divide between predator and prey. Nick was to be to be pursued by Judy for a crime he didn't commit and through this they uncover a conspiracy similar to the one in the final plot. Then after a test screening, Pixar told them to stop being dumb, because the city as they presented it wasn't a place you wanted the protagonists to heal, it was a place you wanted them to escape from and subsequently nuke from orbit. They suggested they cut the shock collars out of the plot entirely if they really wanted the city to be a place you love and want to be fixed instead of destroyed.
>>82323668That pipe's rent isn't going to pay for itself
>>82323598>>82323447I would be inclined to think that, but he actively impedes Judy and i believe antagonist by definition is one who opposes the main character. The "Kidnapper" can't be an antagonist to the main character when they weren't involved with them at all. Most of the conflict in the first half is Judy not feeling like a real cop, Bogo reinforcing that, and Nick completely putting her down worse than anyone else.

>>82323788Well they do have a whole anime series glorifying twintails.
>>82323713The absolutely worst part about this is that it removes Judy's vulnerability, which is what makes her an emphatic character.Near the end of the movie they point out that only a tenth of the population are predators so yeah, they should know better than to fuck with the prey animals.
>>82323564I can't believe the writers forgot basic storytelling, you have to make something likeable if you want your audience to care about saving it. There was nothing likeable about Proto-Zootopia aside from the novelty of it being a city of colorful animals.
>>82323515Reminder that this is mostly speculation>>82323430>Can you tell me more about this?Zootopia started out as Seven Seas, with a rabbit explorer called Jack Savage. This was the pitch, but they were all interested in the city instead. I think it was called Sun City.So now they focused on Sun City, where the protag is a fox, Nick. He went into a lot of changes, like how he was a spy or a detective then to a police I think. He would be framed for something, and an eager bunny would always chase after him. There is also the concept of shock collars, where the collars would detect too much emotion (excitement, anger, etc) and zap the pred.Later on they made Nick into an arcade owner, where it's hidden from authority but open to predators. It's a place where Nick can illegally remove the collars and preds can go wild. Something happens in it and he gets framed. Judy chases him.Somehow the story doesn't seem too tight for the directors, so they went to Pixar for advice. Pixar's (was it Up or Finding Nemo's director?) comment was that the city seems too bleak, and he doesn't want to root for Nick to fix the city but he wants him to get away from it. So the directors and writers rearranged the story, making Judy the protag so viewers can see the city through her eyes as well, while Nick would offer the cynical view. The collars were also dropped. You should check out http://www.matthiaslechner.com/zootopia.html and other artists' tumblrs, the director's faq in Disney's facebook, and the Making Of video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hiu3qJi0aPY)

>>82323725I may be mistaken but I believe that doesn't make him an antagonist. Since he is still helping her in the end despite resisting it it would make it somewhat neutral. If I were to describe it I would say he's a protagonist who follows the classic character arc, where he changes about halfway through and his helpful there on. I don't know if that makes him the initial antagonist though.
>>82323641I don't get the hate for Byron on this idea. I personally think it would have worked, as it would offer something different than the usual Disney fare. I love the Zootopia we got though, but I wouldn't mind if we got the depressing version. It wasn't even scrapped because it was too sad. It was because they wanted the audience to love the city--that was their goal.

>>82324045>>82324136Yes, exactly. >>82326736I just scroll past everything to check out the weaver doodles since 90% of it never gets reposted.
>>82326080I want to fug this 2d underage gril
>>82326797I disagree, sure it featured that but the MC and his way of life is what really impressed me. It's the perfect blend of being a pathetic social outcast and being both competent and proud of your way of life. The series was ruined when focus shifted from games to goddesses though.
>>82326815Except Weaver started it this time
>>82326867>This timeAlways. Even when you think it was someone else.
The only popular mainstream anime is stuff the kids enjoy and which doesn't air in the late night, shit like Doraemon and Conan and goddamn Sazae-san, plus whatever Ghibli made that year. Late night schoolgirl robot fighting shit is not mainstream and not as popular as Disney.
>>82326736After how she helped him prepare for his big day, do you think Nick's mother was devastated by seeing how badly her little boy got hurt? She had to watch him lose faith in not just his childhood dream, but the whole world, and all pinpointed to one traumatic event.
>>82326919please don't post it here, people like weaver have their own containment thread.shame about losing Chumpy though
>>82326736You know, I'm kinda disappointed that the /co/ threads are pretty slow now, but at the same time, relieved that most of those people aren't in these threads anymore

>>82326964>shame about losing Chumpy thoughYou know what? Fuck Chumpy. If you literally cannot take criticism on the internet, cancel your internet or phone service and fuck off. Some people were just asking about how he used somebodys OC and he flipped out.
>>82326895I don't think anyone said that late night anime is as popular as Disney. It can still get fairly popular though (e.g. Love Live).
>>82327006everyone is out having fun.
>>82326865I liked it but I wouldn't use it as an example of good anime. Yeah I never liked the whole goddess thing and dropped it around that arc as well.
>>82326992Did you even watch the movie? Nick made sure she didn't see it get to him, he was probably like "nah mom I changed my mind, boyscouts are for faggots". Pic very fucking related.
>>82327041He didn't leave because of anons criticizing him. He left because Those Without Pay were warning him for his art.
>>82327076Can't think of any other example from this decade though, I sort of agree that anime took a nosedive. I used to love it, too.
>>82318805That myth has been debunked a billion times on this board. He admired the work of a talented female animator from Germany who was a National Socialist. He detested the Jewish heads of showbusiness who held back, and occasionally shat on, his early career. In bouts of anger he called them kikes. That's literally it. A Nazi wouldn't give to Jewish charities, let alone partner with and employ so many chaims.
>>82327110>I sort of agree that anime took a nosediveIt didn't. This is a myth.
>>82327115Passive loathing for jews is what let the holocaust happen. But it's hard to single out Walt since everyone was doing it.

>>82327110You've just been spoiled. Before, translators and companies had to pick the cream of the crop stuff. Now that everything gets translated, you see a lot of bad/mediocre stuff get through. You could say the same if you were Chinese but could now see ALL of the American live stuff. You'd hate that it isn't like Seinfeld or Frasier because you are spoiled.
>>82326964>>82327041>>82327103Chumpy leave ? when ?
>>82327225Well duh. The more you engage in something, the better you get at it. When it comes to entertainment you get picky.
>>82327110I don't know how Mushishi 2 turned out, but I love the first Mushishi, so that might be good, latest-wise.
Reminder that Weaselton did nothing wrong and that they couldn't have solved the case without him.
>>82327198>Name some examples thenI have no idea what you like, and we're talking about a time span of six years. You don't need someone to give you recommendations, you just need to watch more anime and stay on top of seasons. These constant misconceptions in the Western anime community stem from the fact that most people watch and pay very little attention to anime and fill in the blanks with rumors and speculation.

So who's hyped?Deleted Scenes:Alternate Opening – Young Judy Hopps rescues a fellow classmate and realizes she can reach beyond a life in carrot farming to a future in law enforcement.Wild Times! Pitch – Nick desperately pitches the bankers of Zootopia on funding Wild Times!, an amusement park made exclusively for the predators of Zootopia and a sure-fire, money-making scheme for Nick and his friends.Alternate Homesick Hopps – After a frustrating first day on the force, Judy has a conversation with her parents. See how this scene changed from a heartfelt conversation with her parents to tough love when her parents discover their daughter is only a meter maid and not a “real cop.”Detective Work – Judy borrows a fellow police officer’s computer to conduct research, which turns out to be no small task.Alternate Jumbo Pop – In this early version of the story where Nick was the main character, the filmmakers and Jason Bateman were able to take hustling to a new level.Hopps’ Apartment – When Judy’s entire family pays her a surprise visit they are shocked to discover the company she’s keeping. The Taming Party – In this emotional clip from an early version of “Zootopia,” Judy attends her first “taming party” and gains a deeper understanding of the plight of the predator.

For those wondering, art books NEVER get reprints. A few years ago I had the same issue with the Kung Fu Panda book and during a visit to DW with a college group I was told by a rep that art books only have limited prints - once they're sold out, that's it. No more will be made.An except cooooule be made this time, but I highly doubt it. Might as well accept you'll never get your copy now. And as far as I know, a third party handles the art book, not the studios themselves.
Very cool.
