I live in Japan and I just got back from watching Zootopia on its premiere date.Ask me anything.
>>82125884Did you like it?
>>82125905It was fantastic. What about you?
>>82125946I thought it was great!
>>82125884As a citizen of the country that represents our best and last hope:Do you think it will find massive success in Japan?Does the movie play well with your own cultural heritage?
>>82125884Are you a liar?
DID U RIKE IT???
>>82126109Why do you think Japan represents "our best and last hope"? You're not one of those deluded /pol/yps who thinks of Japan like "the good ol' days"?
>>82125884How full was the theater? How did other people seem to like it?Were girls swooning over Nick? Were guys all about Judy? Was it mostly kids?
>>82125884What did the chinks think? Were there lots of SUGOI moments?
>>82126219"Last best hope"... to break over a Billion Dollars.
Is it going to make a bajillion dollars?
>>82126219Nah, the first line was mostly a joke at their expense. You are kind of a "last hope" though in the sense that it came out there last, so Japan is going to be the last big wave of income for the movie, so that's the last place it can get what >>82126259 said.
>>82125884Will they get the message or will they think it's just a funny cartoon?
>>82125884Is it true that they changed the break-up scene at the conference? In the dub, what was the reason for Nick to get mad at Judy?
I too live in Japan, OP. This country isn't big enough for the both of us.
>>82126591The anon that originally said that was lying, no source or anything was given. So the story is the same
OP here.>>82126109I should state that I'm not Japanese. I'm American living in Japan. From what I've seen at the theater, the people did enjoy it and I think it will do just fine performance-wise. I wouldn't go so far as to say it will be massively successful.>>82126248The theater I went to was about 2/3 full, but I do know that two different shows later in the day were almost packed. (I went at the earliest showing at 9 am).I don't know about the reaction from boys and girls, but for the show I went to at least, there were hardly any children. It seemed to be more of a group outing or a dating movie. I saw a good number of couples in attendance. >>82126274That's a good question, but I really doubt it'll have any kind of social impact on the people. It's an interesting thought though, because here in Japan, the people really do think in segregated terms. Anyone who doesn't look like them is "a foreigner." It doesn't matter if you were born and raised here. That also counts for citizenship. You're just not a full Japanese citizen if you're not ethnically fully Japanese. Even biracial (half Japanese, half whatever) get grief. So a movie that tries to get the viewer to look past these differences in Japan is kind of fascinating, and I do wish I had natives to get their opinions on it. As the movie just came out, there's really no one to talk to about it yet, but perhaps in the future, I'll get the opportunity to ask around.>>82126673I feel the same way sometimes when I see other fellow Westerners. Also, I should mention I watched the subbed version, not the dubbed.
>>82126933>Also, I should mention I watched the subbed version, not the dubbed. Then why do you think that the audience was full of couples and not children?Kinda obvious isn't it.
>>82126933>hardly any childrenYeah I found that too. Depends what time of day you go, but definitely I found plenty of adults in the screenings for this film in London that I saw, which is great. Not like the Good Fucking Dinosaur, that was a complete shitshow, screaming kids everywhere and an awful film to boot
>>82127013That is a really good point that neither of us had thought of.
>>82127051>I've watched the movie on the 8th week in an unpopular cinema on early afternoon.>the cinema is absolute empty - just as planned >right before the movie starts a mom with her young daughter enter the room and sit down right behind me>noisy kid will ruin my movie >I move 5 rows to the front>the girl and her mom are quiet for the whole movie>I feel bad now that I had prejudices
OP, were you the fat fuck who spilled his popcorn two rows down from the top row earlier this evening? New Toei Cinemas/hotel in Shinjuku? You made me wanna punch a wall.
>>82127837>going to ShinjukuEww did you catch a disease?
>>82127920Shinjuku is a perfectly fine area, much the same as Shibuya/Ginza/etc. You're either new here or one of those foreigners who needs to feel special if you think otherwise.
>>82127948Nah Shinjuku is the prostitute slums. Shibuya and Ginza are far more high class.
>>82125884how is the Japanese dub?favourite performance in the dub?sorry I love dubbing, yes english dubs of anime and Japanese dubs of cartoons.
>>82127349>not wanting to see it with a packed theatreNigga half the reason I've seen it seven times is to see other people's reactions to all the great scenes like the asylum tiger jump scare.
>>82126933>So a movie that tries to get the viewer to look past these differences in Japan is kind of fascinatingAnime has been doing that for a long time, though of course not that many people watch it compared to Disney movies and such.
have box office returns for zootopia japan come back yet?
>>82125884Did the people in the theater seem to enjoy the movie?
I want to know if the racism message is going to register with the audience at all.
>>82126258This was JAPAN. How the fuck does op know what Chinese audiences think, Pinky?
>>82128515>seven timesmy god you have issues
>>82126933>Also, I should mention I watched the subbed version, not the dubbed.Wait, you mean it was English voices with Japanese subtitles, or...?
Does anyone knows the reaction of the chinese or arabs to this movie?
>>82129888No idea what the Arab reaction was, but in China it seems to be doing extremely well (so well that fennecs are now highly sought after there) despite some criticism from the government.http://www.latimes.com/world/asia/la-fg-china-zootopia-20160414-story.html
>>82128756Probably not since Japan itself is incredibly racist and homogenized.
>>82125905>no did you rike it3/10
>>82130524>Japan is incredibly racistIt's not, though. And it's not even as homogenized as you think.
>>82130148Fennecs are no pets and the guy was actually an asshole. China what's wrong with you?
>>82125884>Ask me anything.Do you believe that the Rap of Nanking actually happened or do you insist it's all gaijin lies?
>>82130982I don't think rap music had been invented then, so no it didn't happen.
>>82128546>Anime has been doing that for a long time>Anime>trying to deliver a message about the dangers of xenophobia and cultural stereotyping to a Japanese audienceHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAOh shit you were serious.
>>82131115There are very often foreigner characters in anime who are presented as essentially the same as the Japanese characters.
>>82130982Japan is the opposite of Germany in this way:>In Germany, it is against the law to say that Nazi war crimes never happened>In Japan, it is against the law to say that Imperialist Japan war crimes actually happenedThe Japanese are super fuckin serious that they never, EVER did anything wrong in the entire history of their nation.
>>82131181I'm not aware of any such law, and things are not that simple in Japan. Some people try to airbrush history, some don't.
>>82131115This is from Yu-Gi-Oh! Abridged you fucking dolt.
>>82131181>>In Japan, it is against the law to say that Imperialist Japan war crimes actually happenedIt's not against the law, it's just really, really, REALLY socially discouraged.Media companies do censor all imported media that includes "insults" to Japan or references history they aren't proud of.The Simpsons episode "Thirty Minutes Over Tokyo" has been banned from broadcast and home video in Japan (their DVD sets skip it and it was never aired).South Park is likewise censored; the Chinpokomon episode and the Ladder to Heaven episode are banned from broadcast and home video. That's just the way the Japanese, culturally. They prefer to pretend anything negative in their nation's past never happened and, while they LOVE to satirize others, they ban all satire of Japan from outside sources.
>>82131181>>82131349Sounds about right, Japanese people tend to be full of themselves and, even when it comes to mass-marketing, usually put their own people before anybody else regardless of population-size.
>>82131349>Implying most other countries dont do the same shit
>>82131080So much historical revisionism.>>82131349>the Chinpokomon episode and the Ladder to Heaven episode are banned from broadcast and home video. So the japs will never know of their tiny dicks?
How is your blog doing gaijin?
>>82131425>>Implying most other countries dont do the same shitAustralians were furious over the Simpsons episode where they visited Australia. But they still broadcast it.Brazilians were furious over the Simpsons episode where they visited Brazil and the tourism board even tried to sue Fox for lost revenue. But they still broadcast the episode. So yes, Japan does stick out as being poor sports when compared to everyone else. They can dish it out but they can't take it.
>>82131349The manga/anime Zipang is about a modern Japanese Navy ship that timeslips back to the Battle of Midway while en route to a training excercise with the US Navy. They decide not to help Japan win the war, and denounce Japan's wartime actions. Colonial Japan is depicted in a negative way. The manga won the Kodansha Manga Award. The recently started anime Joker Game is set in the late 1930s, and while it so far hasn't directly addressed any of the events of the time it does have a very negative slant to it and makes fun of the patriotic zeal the main character has in the beginning.
>>82131554>Australians were furious over the Simpsons episode where they visited Australia. But they still broadcast it.I would be mad too. They told everyone how to win "Knifey Spoony".
>>82125884Opinions on Bellwether?
>>82128515>tfw I've only seen it once and I had to go to the bathroom and missed that scene
>>82131425britain makes fun of itself all the time
>>82131349Sounds like Germany banning all references to Nazism.
>>82131708They don't. FG isn't a credible source.
>>82131744FG?
>>82131744I didn't even know FG said anything about it. I heard it elsewhere.
>>82131349>It's not against the law, it's just really, really, REALLY socially discouraged.I can kind of confirm. I was told not to mention anything about WWII and the things they did to my country when I helped tour some Japanese college students. The funny thing was that the group ended up going to some small museums here anyway and the museum people showed them WWII stuff.
How the fuck is this thread a thing? Seriously?
>>82125884What animal did they choose for the male newscaster in the Japanese version?
>>82131756>>82131773Family Guy. In reality they only ban swastikas in games. And you can't deny the holocaust.
>>82131648Want to infect her with AIDS from Byron Howard's blood
>>82126271No.
>>82131881He has AIDS? Poor guy.
>>82131881faggot
>>82131349But the question do they even know about it? Like is it stricken from their history and textbooks? Do they ban it from being taught in school?
>tfw just watched Zootopia>tfw feel like you are late on the bandwagon & all the fun threads and shit are probably already a thing of the past
>>82131849Quite a bit of swastikas in the newer Wolfenstein games.
>>82131834I remember seeing pics of it being a tanuki, I think.
>>82131834Tanuki. It was teased before it even premiered in the EU.
>>82131834Tanuki. Apparently he's modelled on a local newscaster.
>>82131942He meant the German versions of games. Which are also heavy on censorship in general.
>>82131902What artist drew this gay furry shit? So I can, you know, avoid it.
>>82131849>And you can't deny the holocaust./pol/ does it all the time.
>>82131808>>82131349The reason is that being wrong or making a mistake in Japanese culture is a BIG deal.In Japan, you are told and expected to absolutely fucking LAY INTO anyone who makes a mistake, on any level, be it a corrupt politician or the lady at AM/PM who gives you the wrong change. And I mean absolutely, positively UNFORGIVING in your reaction to their mistake. Just fucking DESTROY them. You think I'm exaggerating, but their reasoning is that it discourages further mistakes on the part of the person apologizing (and if you're the one who makes the mistake, you are expected to absolutely prostrate and demean yourself for forgiveness). The end result, though, is a very cold and aggressive culture with 0 Tolerance for imperfections. People live in a perpetual state of dread of making a mistake or disappointing someone else. It's one of the reasons the suicide rate is so high; people would rather kill themselves than face the brutal social hazing of having made a mistake or failed in some way.So that trickles into every aspect of their lives, including their historical revisionism. To accept that they committed heinous war atrocities in WWII and during their Imperialist era would be to accept that they were wrong; that they made a mistake. And the Japanese can't handle that, so they prefer to pretend it never happened, because culturally the cost of failing or being wrong is basically "your life".

>>82132031Holy shit. Mandarin audio?
>>82132000https://www.patreon.com/EchoGame?ty=hIs actually really GOD, you should check it out
>>82132022I'm sure this is all completely accurate and balanced just like most posts on 4chan regarding Japan.
>>82131937I'm sorry, anon. Threads around early March were pretty great. I hope you can still catch up with the memes and cute art from South Korea.
>>82131115>xenophobia>real or dangerous>cultural-stereotyping>dangerous
>>82131931>But the question do they even know about it? Like is it stricken from their history and textbooks? Most of WWII is omitted from text books and only covered in a generalized sense, skipping straight to post-war Reconstruction. The Tokyo Trials were, essentially, a farce and most of the highest ranking officers who committed those war crimes got off with little to no consequences. Those officers went on to take positions in the Ministry of Education, determining what would and would not go into the history books to be taught in schools. So, naturally, anything about Nanking or Comfort Women or POW slave labor was excised. Most Japanese today know next to nothing about their country's part in WWII; many even think that they won it because life is pretty good now, so of course they won, right?
>>82132091yes, but there are some version with English audio. It seems still out of sync though
>>82125884Do you think you've taken your boner for Asian girls a little too far? I mean, I think goth girls are hot but you don't see me moving to Transylvania to teach Draculas...
>>82132157I'm interested in the Mandarin, actually.
>>82132128I bet some people will even take this post seriously.
>>82132022>The end result, though, is a very cold and aggressive culture with 0 Tolerance for imperfections. People live in a perpetual state of dread of making a mistake or disappointing someone else. When I was over there, what I noticed even more than that was that, culturally, you are never, ever, EVEREVEREVEREVEREVER supposed to accept a compliment. That is seen as being rude and egotistical. So when someone compliments you, you have to reply with a fucking novel explaining why you are shit and don't deserve nice things. It's fine when you just say, "no I was just lucky" or "thank you, but I need more practice", but the more the other person presses the compliment the more you have to self-denigrate yourself so no one thinks you've got an ego.So the end result is a culture that lives in fear of making a mistake, but ALSO lives in fear of being complimented for NOT making a mistake. They're basically psychotic.
>>82132128I mean that bomb was dropped on them so they gotta know.
>>82132197Me too. I wish they would have gone for it in Iron Man 3 instead of half assing it for "le twist" that fell flat for most people.
>>82132117Oh well, at least Weaver seems to be still drawing Zootopia stuff those days so cool
>>82132290You know how the US is, dropping bombs like no one's business. They probably think we bombed them because it was Tuesday or something.
>>82131983So was MoosebridgeIf you're Canadian https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Mansbridge
>>82132268They have a collectivistic culture. The individual is not supposed to stand out. I know it seems alien in the west but it's a thing in the east.
>>82132022I've heard that part of the reason for the historical revisionism is that the Asian version of the Nuremberg trials didn't go nearly as hard. The American occupation had to go through the existing Japanese bureaucracy instead of direct administration a la Germany because no one could speak Nipponese, so they deliberately avoided stirring the pot. When 1.) the emperor himself was never forced to accept any sort of responsibility and 2.) a lot of people who had definitely committed war crimes managed to get back into government afterwards it sort of gave a free pass to Japanese conservatives. Especially in the 2nd half of the occupation, when the US let a lot of former military-clique types back into government as a way to say fuck you to the Japanese communists. It's a complicated story anon. I wouldn't credit it entirely to "cultural differences."

>>82131708Not quite the same. Germany allows nazi imagery in a historical context, but you wouldnt be allowed to walk down the street waving a nazi flag. Germany is really ashamed of its history, so its basically the opposite of japan

>>82131174>There are very often foreigner characters in anime who are presented as essentially the same as the Japanese characters. That's more of a case of Japanese ignorance about foreigners than it is an attempt at inclusiveness. Like in the US, where the "foreign guy" is just an American who only occasionally puts a stereotypical twist on US customs.

>>82131834y'know, it only just now clicked that the guy who designed most of the characters also worked on wildstar.
>>82132649Indeed.In Japan, it is next to impossible for a foreigner to attain citizenship. They can get working visas that are extended nigh-indefinitely (depending on their productivity), but citizenship is almost unattainable. And you can't get citizenship via marriage, in case anybody asks.So most Japanese who live outside of metropolitan areas like Tokyo and Kyoto, and don't live near military bases, can literally go their entire lives without ever seeing someone of a different ethnicity. When I visited Takayama, I was gawked at by people on the streets because they had never once seen a white person.I can only imagine how black people are treated.
>>82132690They exist for humans alsoIn a hospital/mental health ward, they have muzzles for humans that are prone to biting/spittingIt's a little strange for children to get a hold of one,but you can buy one in almost any sex shopSo they probably got the muzzle from one of their parents' dresser drawers
>>82132331I personally don't care or don't want to know what goes with that name, but eh enjoy yourself

>I can only imagine how black people are treated. How does it feel to be "black"? Is there any bonus or only downsides?
>>82132690You didn't notice the wolf who got muzzled when Judy first arrived at the police station? ("He bared his teeth first!" He was voiced by the guy who makes great spliced instagram vids. Zootopia team parodied his jail video). It works like handcuffs. One of the kids probably took it from their parent who is a police officer.

>>82132649>That's more of a case of Japanese ignorance about foreigners than it is an attempt at inclusiveness. This is not the Edo period we're living in. The Japanese are not ignorant of the outside world.>>82132754The difficulty of attaining citizenship in Japan has nothing to do with what we're talking about here.By the way there's a member of the Japanese Diet who is Finnish.>So most Japanese who live outside of metropolitan areas like Tokyo and Kyoto, and don't live near military bases, can literally go their entire lives without ever seeing someone of a different ethnicity.I hardly ever come into contact with foreigners but that doesn't mean I don't know anything about them.

I noticed only foreigners were being made to leave purses and bags at the counter.Found out later it was a common practice, as the Japanese think that only foreigners shoplift, so they don't make Japanese leave purses and bags.Personally, I was just grateful when I found shops and restaurants that didn't have "no foreigner allowed" signs on the door.

While my friends where screaming obscenities because they didn't think people would understand, every other word out of my mouth was "sumimasen". Good Japan is awesome. Mean Japan is terrifyingly close to 60s Alabama.Even though I speak perfectly intelligible Japanese, I always prefaced everything with "Sumimasen, watashi no nihongo wa amari yokunai desu. Demo..." It showed humility, which gives the Japanese boners and made them more willing to listen to me and be polite. The Japanese love to mock Americans for speaking in -masu form and using desu, but we're taught to speak that way because it's polite form and we want to be considerate.Yet they hate, hate HATE it even more when Americans DON'T use -masu form and try to speak casually, as they consider it rude.So they've got us at a catch 22.

>>82132923 Yeah and America is a nation of immigrants and melting pot culture with great relationships with its neighbors compared to Japan. It's not that people are unaware other cultures exist. Man this movie is too fucking good. Everything felt so beautifully paced and didn't really seem to fall that much into "we have to do this because it's a kids movie." Like trying to have a really annoying character that. And the twist with Bellwether honestly was handled really fucking well. Unlike most movies that introduced the villain once at the start and only seen again later you see her a couple of times but never in a way that really points her out. And I'm happy they just become friends at the end and not do that "love at first 24 hours" Disney keeps doing.

>>82138448Yeah that was one problem with it. They introduced him but for some reason forgot he existed right away. Hell I would have loved at least one scene where Nick and Judy have to sneak into a place and so they dressed him in something to get into the place. You can tell there was a few things that changed with rewrites. Some characters seem like it should have been more developed or something. But even with all that the movie is amazingly paced.>>82133616Even with the final half I was enjoying it even with Olaf in the movie. It's the "Oh hey we have a random villain now" is when the movie really lost me. Felt like they had a good idea but was worried about losing little kids so they just dipped into the "kids trope" well. Zootopia I felt didn't have that problem for the most part. Just Judy doing something stupid which nearly broke up the friendship with Nick which is cliche as fuck. But I felt they did it because they wanted kids to see Judy as a bigoted and need to learn and not just doing it to add conflict.
>>82137117>We see Nick go for Judy's throat.>Cut to shot of Bellwether.>She smiles.Bellwether gets gets off on watching preds kill prey. That's one sick, SICK sheep.

Why does she helps Judy doesn't she know the Otter case is related to her?
>>82139002Yeah I feel it was a bit rushed around her being back with her family. But I felt they needed to clear the air with those two (which I felt was handled well mostly because Nick is base as fuck and didn't even question Judy which goes well with his character). Felt the train chase scene was a bit too chaotic mostly since the movie until than was really good at keeping an even pace even when things got tense. Bellwether part however was done well in my opinion mostly since the movie did feel like it was leading up to her. I honestly was questioning who it was until all the rams showed up on the train and so I pieced it together. So for a kids movie involving a mystery I feel it was damn good.

>>82139086>Nick's mom is a criminal and also the owner of Wilde TimesSorry anon, I can see you tried, but that just feels... Ehh.
>>82139260>Movie is based and centred around Zootopia >Tries to introduce plothole by expanding the setting to areas that don't exist Nah, you're retarded.
>>82139222Not necessary as he walks on 2 feet, he trims them probably to look sharp.
>>82139202She wanted more Prey (especially little ones) to be thought as heroes. And she didn't really think Judy would be able to solve the case since no one else could. Hell she might have been scared as fuck when Judy discovered the jail Lionheart was keeping the Savage Predator but kept a cool head.
>>82138971Hoofed animals are the worst.
>>82139202Realistically that's one of those cases that wouldn't be solved until decades after the fact if at all.
>>82138181and that's all folks, hope the payoff was worth all the crying. For anyone confused, again, this is a crossover with the Animal Lands mango, a dystopia where animals eat each other and can't understand the cries of other species.Lions eat zebras, foxes eat rabbits. There are however instances where the animals become able to hear species through extreme empathy.
>>82139266No it meant he had to stop being a jerk, not your gay fantasies
>>82139248She is glad someone helps Mrs Otterton. Why? She poisoned him. She may not know why he is missing but she knows that it's because of her actions.
>>82139202One part because Judy was a tool to expose Lionheart and become Mayor herself. One part because of her own bias' that made her want to help out someone she felt was a kindred spirit (a poor underdog trying to fight against the world)Bellwether isn't absolutely evil. Bellwether just strictly believes her dogma/agenda is correct. If you agree with her, she won't cause shit for you as long as you aren't a pred. Her problem was that she didn't stage Nick killing Judy a lot sooner using Doug. If it'd been me I'd have had Doug monitor Nick for days after the initial blow out and be put on orders to fucking shoot him with Nighthowler the moment he and Judy met up again. Bam, instant martyr and two loose ends tied up. She was too compassionate.
>>82139202That was Bellwether's plan. Mayor Lionheart was imprisoning the predators who'd gone savage to keep the public from finding out about them. Bellwether wanted them found to cause the panic Lionheart was trying to prevent.
>>82139202She probably figured she could use Judy to further her plans. She had access to the jam-cams, so she likely kept tabs on Judy, and ordered Doug to shoot Manchas so that if Judy gets killed, they'll blame it on preds, and if she survives and brings in a savage Manchas, the threat of savage preds would still come out into the light. And she probably knew about what Lionheart was doing, so if Judy happened to air that out for her, it's a win-win.
>>82139412>Lionheart ousted as a means of causing chaosA predator betrayed by his city
>>82139368>taught all his life that gay men are weak and effeminate>begins feeling attracted to other guys.>tries to reassert his masculinity through aggression. It's a thing that happens, dude.
>>82137657Man, your eyes must be 20/20, it is stretched four pixels but still.
>>821395020 film evidence, you're projecting faggot fantasies on a character with no supporting evidence. He was a jerk, he had to stop being a jerk, that's all it was.
>>82139502Sure and every aggro dude is your husbando.
>>82125884I actually just got back from Zootopia, too. I thought it was fucking awesome, but I still question how Judy and Nick became so close so quickly.Still amazing, though.

>>82135634I couldn't stop staring at the gap inbetween his two front teeth the whole movie.
>>82139585Since they are just friends and not dating I can see it. Weird how Judy is willing to put Nick on the force after only a day or two of working with him but she's just a fun trusting bunny.
>>82135749Yo, that's a fuckin trace. The original has them both in their normal clothes but with the same amount of disheveledness.
>>82139503I have shit vision when I look at things far away, but it's okay when things are near. And I don't know why but I'm sensitive with stretched images. Probably due to past uni projects.

>>82139730But they're JUST friends
>>82139896They had something in common. They both got shit on by people who didn't believe in them. And near death experience. I don't know why but that makes people bond closer in fiction.
>>82139899Hmm, I think I recall something...Did they get a tv show. In 3D?Kinda like Donkey Kong did?I think I have memories of a BIONICLE tv show.
>>82139958They had enough movies and spinoffs to be compared to scooby doo but I don't think a TV show ever existed

>>82132022Huh.Interesting.That actually makes sense.I feel weird because I have similar self-deprecating tendencies like this, not the aggressive-to-others part though, but I never read all that till now. Sure I saw commit sudoku memes and shit but damn. Japan is fucked up, for real. I hate being like this I can't imagine everyone doing it.
