How do you think the big releases like Moana and Finding Dory will affect the movies success, as well as it's chance for academy awards? Are they likely to prevent it from reaching $1 billion?
>>
I am Nick's number 1 fan
>>
>>82025846
We got months before Finding Dory comes out. Zootopia will almost certainly be out of theaters by then
>>
>>82025846
Dude, Moana doesn't come out for like 9 months, and Dory for 4. it'll be out of theaters by then, so $1 billion wont be affected

As for Academy Awards, who gives a shit, Best Animated Picture is bought and paid for by Disney for Pixar, unless Pixar's movie was shit, in which the mainline Disney movie wins
>>
Finding Dory will probably get meh reception, since it seems to be a complete rehash, and the nigger princess movie looks ugly as sin.

Plus Zootopia will have mad all of it's money by the time Dory's out
>>
If Will Smith enforces his diversity quota at the oscars, Moana might get nominated over Zootopia just for having blackish looking characters

It'll give them a competition, but if they're not as absorbing as Zootopia and don't get a cult following I think it's easy to say which one will come out on top.
>>
>>82025846

The Academy will likely eat up the poignant social commentary Zootopia was steeped in. I don't think it has anything to worry about as far as sweeping Best Animated Feature. (At least I really hope not).
>>
>>82025880
and will be out on dvd/bluray, god damn june please come quick

Sorry, I'm a bit tired, so topics a bit sloppy. Regardless, do you think Finding Dory will overshadow Zootopia in the long run?
>>

>Diversity Quota
Man, can the AA's get any more meaningless? We should grab 100 random people and ask them their choices, you'd be more likely to hit the best movies that way

No, and I feel they kinda dropped the ball letting any potential momentum from Finding Nemo die out before making a sequel, which will probably be hamfisted because the first one leaves everything pretty wrapped up. I suppose they're trying to play on nostalgia.

>Zootopia's Chinatown technically is outside the main city, situated north of the Rainforest District's Canals District where the delta's waters become brackish and the spaces between the rivers grows just wide enough for farming communities to spring up. This area is known as "Jiānghú" by it's locals. There's a surprisingly large 'pine tree forest' dedicated to the art of 'hardwork' and where monks train under a panda.

>Zootopia's 'Little Tokyo', is similarly more rural than urban as ethnic districts go and is located on the mountain range between tundratown and downtown. The area was originally founded around a shrine and hotspring inn.

"Separate, but never parted, Kindred represents the twin essences of death. Lamb's bow offers a swift release from the mortal realm for those who accept their fate. Wolf hunts down those who run from their end, delivering violent finality within his crushing jaws. Though interpretations of Kindred's nature vary across Runeterra, every mortal must choose the true face of their death."

So the two are technically one being, but opposites. Lamb is calm, reserved, and a bit coy, while wolf is rash and aggressive.

Lamb has an actual physical form, while wolf is more ethereal, usually consisting of just a floating head&torso, though occasionally having front legs as well.

No. In tiny clips it's much more overt. As a full presentation though, it's extremely well done, poignant, and thematic without even being preachy. That in and of itself is absolutely brilliant writing, even before you take in the superb scene design, character development, mise en scene, story, etc.

The only time it ever seems overt and obvious as to their intent is during Judy's "cute" scene with Clawhauser.

They'd be charged as accomplices to conspiracy I thought.

At the risk of sending thread into a spiral of memes and >implying, there seem to be multifaceted aspects to the depiction of power/bias in Zootopia.

Lionheart got elected as a predator, and although we as an audience do associate male lions with many of the same qualities we would seek from a traditional male leader (strong, brave, regal, etc), I wonder if this assumption carries over into the universe.

Same thing with the wolves, they were all predators and they were working as Lionheart's secret service (although they weren't able to uncover the Sheepening).

Not much of a conspiracy, and I suspect their actions would fall more in line with something of a pseudo witness protection/quarantine kind of scheme, the predators they caught obviously would be too dangerous to let loose and as I recall the otterwife didn't particularly care about him previously being missing after she saw how wild he had become.
Such cases I think are also built on intent, they were still trying to help, just obviously they had no idea how and they didn't want to cause a panic, as did happen after the press conference, and was the point of the actual conspiracy.

Good because everything's fine now. Don't worry about that stuff affecting any future plans you have for your cutest couple.

Actually, I have a question about that. You do your two great. Byron makes NickxJudy incredible. What kind of Gay Magic do you have access to that lets you draw cute couples like that?
>>
>>82027475
Thing is they all do it in some form: Judy with her "articulate" comment to Nick. Nick with his stroking of Bellwether's hair and asking if she counts herself before going to sleep at night. Weasels cheat at cribbage and are petty criminals. Every adult sheep, except the one at the news interview, was in on the conspiracy.
But I see Judy's point. If all your life you were called cute, you're probably worried about not being taken seriously and Judy worked hard to get where she is.
And then she has her own prejudices she is forced to face.
Lotsa nuances.
>>
>>82027998

Judy's apology. Holy shit, it's fucking PERFECT. The line delivery, the animation, the mise en scene (with the literal shadows under the bridge being Judy's gloom and the sunlight being Nick's waiting arms)--every sniff, snob and near-breakdown is emotional as hell and the whole scene is just so powerful.

Distant second would have to be Judy trying to contain her impatience at the DMV--begging, PLEADING as she utters "3!" right as Flash finished with the 0. So cute. So well animated.

Honorable mention quickie emotion: watching Nick's expressions as he learns Judy is in Mr. Big's good graces and then performs the "kiss kiss" Italian favored greeting. I love that "WHAT THE FUCK DID I JUST SEE?!" face he has at the very end.
>>
>>82028052

I must not have remembered that, I thought that it was almost every sheep in-government.

I wouldn't necessarily, but if my kid asked me what I thought was a good film I'd get that for them. That's half of why I ended up watching a bunch of stuff, because Dad would end up renting movies that he liked and let me watch the cartoons.

On the other hand, that kid's going to have to be real fucking good to get me to sit through Minions with them. They can go with their friends when they're older.

It hasn't crossed the line yet.

But if it motherfucking does...
>>
>>82029060
In the sense that I would try to raise them to be cultured, yes, I would show them movies and other types of art I thought were good and well-respected. But they wanted to see the newest "Minions" craze flick, of course I would take them.

Animation oscars are dealt out based on whatever movie the voting member's kids dragged them into. I mean goddamn Big Hero 6 won a fucking oscar against the Song of the Sea and the Tale of Princess Kaguya. A lot of the academy members full-on admitted they didn't see all of the nominees but voted for Frozen anyway because it's so exceptional and also the only nominee they saw, and so forth.

The animation Oscars are a joke. Zootopia will win, unless Moana and it's wonderful PoC Princess role model will beat it. Brave won an Oscar against Wreck-It Ralph, after all.

It's pretty obvious from the lack of marketing and merchandising not being fucking Frozen levels of everywhere that Disney was expecting good amounts of money, probably not almost the 1bn it got

what the hell is happening. I can't draw at all, but now just started and every day I don't doodle something (even a shitey trace of official art from monitor), I feel physically sick. I can't draw well too and grow increasingly frustrated, spending more time drawing at expense of other stuff.
I reduced time spent on vidya by over 90% and sometimes launch something out of habit for half an hour before resuming lessons.
I didn't ask for this.

I am absolutely aware it takes years to make something remotely presentable.

These years will pass anyway, so might as well be spending them learning myself a new skill in the meantime, but it's the internal tension and the NEED to draw which I never realised I had is just killing me.
