So how long until Disney eventually milks and overexposes the success of Zootopia and it becomes cool to hate it and /co/ swears it NEVER liked it?

/pol/ hates Zootopia because it's too anti-racist

Since there's no middle ground I conclude that /co/ already hates Zootopia, all threads praising it notwithstanding

What? 90% of fanart, porn or otherwise, comes from Tumblr.

Stop reading shitty SJW blogs and thinking that's the entire website.

I'm fine with them using Zootopia as another Animal Kingdom expansion or attraction. There's a huge empty space next to the Rafiki's Planet Watch that'd be great for it

Frozen burned through my goodwill when they started shoving it almost everywhere in the parks and shoehorned it into Epcot.

I cans still appreciate Zootopia for being a good movie even if I get sick of it. I grew tired of Finding Nemo years ago, still thought it was the better movie when Frozen was new.

Animal Kingdom needs more guest draws as they expand their hours into the evening. And the Studios has gone into full Star Wars mode for all their new entertainment stuff during the construction.

What pisses me off about Zootopia is that it's only average at best and yet people are treating it as if it's something amazing

That and people going to watch it in droves like sheep while almost compeltely ignoring the superior children's film that's playing at the Theater I work at.

The little prince is average during the cgi parts but has actual artistic merit when it plays the papercraft sections which is more then Zootopia ever had going for it.
>>
>>80720370
Because those people view it as something amazing, just like you see it as average. It's almost as if people have different opinions.

>>
>>80720770
>>80720770
It's not furry, it's the latest Disney movie with anthropomorphic animals.

If you're going to start banning anthro, you also have to ban all talk of Mickey Mouse, Goofy, Bugs Bunny & Looney Tunes, Kung Fu Panda, Donald Duck, Uncle Scrooge, Ducktales, Darkwing Duck, Gumball, Ren & Stimpy, Tom & Jerry, a whole lot of Disney movies, TMNT, And so on and so on.

A lot of western animation features talking animals acting like humans. It's at the core of the western animated tradition, since the early days of Felix the Cat and Mickey Mouse.

Man, if theres one thing I've learned from writing my first fic is be sure to outline EVERYTHING before you start. I outlined there to be a flashback, but I didn't outline what would happen in said flashback just what it meant for the present, and now I'm kinda stuck.

>People keep talking about how much more amazing the shock-collar Nick version of Zootpia would've been compared to what we got
>To the point people are making conspiracy theory esq posts that Disney got bought out by the republican party or some shit

People: the reason they abandoned the shock collar plot was because they realized that if Zootopia was literally controlling predators to such an extent that they were physically harming them for acting out then that'd give Nick and the Audience no reason to want to see the city or its inhabitants survive or be rescued.

It'd have been a bit darker yes (I say a bit, we all know the shock-collar would've just been used as a sight gag for most of the movie and only really brought up in any serious capacity near the climax) but it also would've put our hero in a position where he's a victim of an oppressive establishment trying to save said establishment because...?

It's clear they couldn't answer that 'because' with any real good answer so they modified the film's premise to compensate and honestly I doubt we lost much in that regard.

Now what we DID lose? Sheep conspiracy theorist. THAT was an element sorely missing from this movie.

>>80731262
I feel they could have benefited from at least giving Nick a collar rather than just blackmailing him with some random recording. Shock collars instead of handcuffs because they are animals.
>>
>>80731262
I honestly think we might have lost something that COULD BE special with the original plotline.

But I do think they made the right decision because as it was, it wasn't going to work, and some of the changes that would need to be made would not work really as the kid's movie they were trying to make it.

It might have worked for a more mature audience with some tweaking, but they really did make the right decision to rewrite it.

I'm just sad because there really were neat ideas in there and I'm a bit of a sucker for stories where things suck until the heroes earn their happy endings.

And that clip of Nick after getting out of his collar was pretty great
>>
>>80731440

>>80731262
I'd say it still could have worked less in the sense of "Every Predator has to wear a shock collar" and more "If a Predator has ANY criminal record, they get Shock Collar"

Retool Nick's backstory into rather than his squad mates just fucking with him and more that as kids he and his squad get into some kind of mischief and while all the others get a talking too/some light community service, he gets the fucking shock collar because of a ZERO TOLERANCE rule.

So that's what disillusions him in the end because once he gets the shock collar all the kids who were in his squad start distancing themselves from him because they realize "he's different"

His motivation stills works. "If they're going to slap a shock collar on me, then I'll prove those fuckers just how right they are"

It'd work more to parallel the kind of "placebo" fixes that are made and supposed to prove how far we've come as a society.

Predators have to not fuck up even once otherwise they get a fucking brand to tell everyone they can't be trusted. You get the stigma of "He must have done SOMETHING to get that collar" so people distrust you. Even if it's something as minor as toilet papering a house.

So if an animator saying 'Send me pics if you in costume' isn't at least trying to appeal to furries, then I wouldn't want to imagine what appealing to furries looks like to you.

Anon you haven't changed Zootopia at all or make it more likable or real.

It still reads like a totalitarian government where a minority of the population are scapegoated and de(pardon the phrasing)humanized you just added on an extra layer of political "BUT ONLY IF THEY DO BAD THINGS (which can be anything we don't like)" which is just gonna make the audience even more hostile to this society's unfairness.

The core issue is still there you're just putting a bandaid on it and acting like that fixes it.

Likable, I'll give you.
Real? No, that's far more realistic. It parallels how the laws did treat people differently based on race in the past.

How people can preach pretty America is the land of free and equal opportunity while the Jim Crow laws were in effect.

If a flawed Zootopia isn't worth saving, than real life really isn't either.

Shock Collars just serve as a physical representation of invisible ones people had in the past, Where they had to make sure they gave up their seat on the bus or face a ZAP.
>>
>>80732109
Furthermore, it could lead to a neat scene where Judy realizes that the system itself needs to be fixed from her time as a meter maid.

During the first half the movie you can have her get in a confrontation with some predator over a Parking Ticket, where she ends up sending him to the station for "causing a disturbance"

Que whenever she has her blowout with Nick at the end or start of the 3rd act and while she's contemplating she she's the guy she gave the ticket too. Except now he's got a fucking collar around his neck and it hits her square in the jaw just how fucked the system is because she basically marked a guy for life over him getting upset at a ticket.

The problem is that you're turning a cultural barrier into an official government sanctioned barrier.

The difference is subtle but it creates a dissonance where an audience, even ones who've experienced racism and empathize with it, are forced to recontextualize it. It's no longer "this extremist faction that people ignore will beat you up if you step out of line" it's "the government is now going big brother on you" which is a slightly different flavor of oppression than American racism and it codes the issue as a strictly black and white one unlike the more sordid messy affair racism continues to be in America.

"Why is this society flawed?"
"Well this shock collar is meant to represent all the faults in this society!"
"And who gives them out?"
"The government."
"Then the government are the bad guys. The city's a complete dystopia."

"Why is this society flawed?"
"Well this shock collar is meant to represent all the faults in this society!"
"And who gives them out?"
"The government."
"Then the government are the bad guys. The city's a complete dystopia."

That's an oversimplification. You cut out a few steps

"Who elects the government?"
"The people."
"Then the people are the bad guys who are ruining the city"
"Is defeating/killing all the people practical or realistic?"
"No."
"Then the only way to change the city is to change the people"

If Zootopia is a dystopia that can't be salvaged in the original draft, then that means Predators and Prey living together can't be salvaged. The point being is making progress is the only way to survive.

Yes. Killing all those people animals would've been infeasible.

That doesn't mean we wanna be invested in their lives if things do turn tragic for them or we even really wanna continue following this story or even wanna really admire the protagonists for sticking with it. It'd go from being "dark" to being straight up depressing. Zootopia being "The Wire" with furry animal people might make for a good joke but I don't even think a Don Bluth style of movie could've made it work because any attempt at changing the system would've made the experience feel hollow. Like our characters are trying really hard for something that doesn't really deserve it.

That's true for the real world (in a completely nihilistic sense) but then this sort of plays into my next points:

1: The predator/prey analogue should not mirror or represent any ACTUAL race issues in the real world. It's fine to evoke the idea of prejudice but it shouldn't be Cats Don't Dance level of "the animals are clearly meant to be minorities trying to get a job in Hollywood".

2: The shock collars would turn the Film's current tackling of predator/prey relations (from an underlying issue regarding aggression, fear, majorities vs minorities, etc) from a fairly subtle matter into an overt issue regarding how they see one another. It's taking the issue to the extreme and as such an extreme solution would need to be inferred since this is a movie with cinematic beats and as you said, an extreme solution would be unfeasible.

BASICALLY: The movie would still suffer from the protagonists having to ultimately side with a society that hurt them to which the only answer is "Well... you gotta cause real world's just a shit heap kids!"

Your thinking is naive pessimism that doesn't get anything done
The Government only remains in power so long as the majority of the people aren't willing to die to change it.

It's where a lot of people give up and why fucked up shit is still part of the laws. Because the majority of people aren't willing to risk their lives and happiness to change it.

>>80732927
I think it's a fundamental difference in our views. I feel it's more "you gotta try and change the world, because no one else will if you don't. Even if it's one person at a time. You gotta make progress"

Also this guy's right. It's more like

"Who elects the government?"
"A select few who achieve this through gerrymandering, discouraging minorities and youth from voting, accepting billions of dollars in corporate funds to advertise themselves, a controlled media network designed to keep the populace stupid and ignorant of any view they disapprove of, making sure voting days occur on work days so as to prevent citizens forced to work for a living (hint hint usually people below the poverty line) do not go out on those days. Really impressive how you can create the perfect supporter while simultaneously blocking the ones who'd see your power taken from you from having any real ability to move against you."

>Your thinking is naive pessimism that doesn't get anything done

An acknowledgement of reality, of the influence of money on politics, and the reality of media feeding into people's biases, media presenting convenient facts to push people into certain camps, gerrymandering, the list goes on and on.

There is a whole slew of systems that make that idea a joke.

Especially since, at it's core, if you'll remember, America is not a democracy, it's a republic.

People don't choose candidates, parties do with delegate systems.

Often, it's the same, but there's a lot of ways they can twist and push out and bait and switch with a candidate that's good for the party and not for the people.

The point I'm making is that a lot of time kids don't realize just how bad they're acting

This is coming from a guy who was bigger than most during 2nd Grade and only realized he was acting like a bully because someone called him one when he thought we were just playing around. An angle played up not enough is that a lot of kids don't realize just how bad they're being and aren't inherently little monsters because they're bad, but because they don't they fail to comprehend how their actions make other feel. Since they're can't put together that maybe they're acting the way they are because their parents are currently dealing with one of them recovering from alcoholism and the painful process where even though they're trying to get better, you're scared shitless because you've basically been told you can't tell anyone about it and if you do it'll be big big big trouble

It was funny at first: the kid was awkward and annoying, low hanging fruit for anyone wanting to express a little bit of cruelty. Nice catch.

In The Jungle Book (and some of the animated adaptations, including the Soviet one, but not the Disney one, but possibly the upcoming live action one) there's a "water truce" in which all killing is forbidden in times of drought, which I thought was pretty cool. But the reality - that predator and prey will pretty much brush up right against each other, until someone gets hungry - is even cooler.

I like Zootopia like anyone else, but fuck you for trying to mix in that garbage game.

Why Undertalefags have to shove in their shitty game into everything?
>>
>>80735718
The same reason other people make crossovers of things they like. You realize that other people are going to have the same exact aversion to Zootopia characters being crossed over with random properties. It's best just to ignore it if it does not suit you, instead of making a big fuss for practically no reason.
>>
>>80735811
>don't raise a fuss about it, bro, just ignore it!
>don't talk about or in any way question your threads getting turned into circlejerking drawfags and namefags, just ignore it!

They are, I am not kidding here, disappointed that an animated movie that deals with racism and the combatting of said racism doesn't have more voice actors of color.

Anon, while I agree with you in that I don't like this sort of stuff, you have to understand:
We're on fucking 4chan.
This is freedom incarnate.
If it's going to be here, it's going to be here because someone wants it to be here, and no one can say anything about it short of the mods.
This is not the place to draw a line in the sand.
This is not the place to decide what can and can't enter.
You want a proper forum community for that. Some place with some minimal level of organization.
If you want out, just leave town. That snowstorm is harsh and unforgiving, but if you push against it hard enough you'll find some cosy little far away town to be happy in, and you can visit back whenever you like.
You can't save the old man Phil.

More importantly, eating a night howler flower only causes temporary rage and aggression. They were refining night howler petals into a highly concentrated, chemically altered toxin with permanent effects (at least permanent unless the antidote is administered). If someone ate a natural night howler the effects would presumably wear off within an hour or two like it did with Judy's uncle.

There comes a point where you can't blame youthful foolishness and have to admit you dun fucked up somewhere, like if you're a 38 year old man who's been wearing a fursuit to conventions for 10 years.

If you were a brony for a year then maybe you can chock it up to youthful foolishness, although it depends on how old you were at the time.

It's because people in the US have such low expectations for animation when it comes to plot and handling mature themes.

It's a Disney feature animation, and people are still expecting animation to be kiddie stuff, you know "aren't you too old to still like animation", and now when Zootopia actually made an effort at being a bit more mature and tackling bigger themes (while still being kid-friendly) people are all amazed, like oh my god it's the best movie ever.

It's not that it's amazing as a movie, it's amazing compared with what people expected from a Disney animation.

(I think it's still a good movie though)
